How was your week?

Good week. Real good week. I hope you guys had a good week too. I'm stoked about the teams that made it to the Super Bowl. Bronco's fan here, but you know, if Carolina wins well I'd be happy that they beet Peyton and the Broncos. There aren't a whole lot of teams that i can say that about. I'll be happy with which ever team. We finished a basement project- a drink rail. I dont know how many of you like tinkering with your house, but i do. It could be brand new and I'd still find something to "improve". Anyway, hope y'all had a great week, and look forward to talking to you again.
So I hope the two pictures i wanted to post, got posted but one is of the drink rail. The other is of my son enjoying the snow.

A little over $3K in car repairs and I didn't even blink. Should still be cheaper than car payments. Maybe I'll get something newer in the next year or two.

what do you drive? what did you have done?
Hah! a 1999 Solara SLE with about 100k on it. Valve cover gaskets, another gasket somewhere, full tune new wires, syn oil change and all filters, new starter, water pump, real good brakes (not ceramic), A/C Compressor (squealing like a pig), timing and Serpentine belts, and other doo dads that come into play, cleaning engine in and out (drop oil pans, etc.), and whatever else I forgot.

Happy Valentines Day everyone. The last two weeks have been a trip. First off, I know that I have sung many a praise about my son, but I need to face it- he is a mess. This kid has more energy then a nuclear power plant, and with the exception of naps or sleeping, has not stopped moving or exploring. Over the past two weeks, I've installed a dozen new cabinet locks, replaced the needle on the record player and retrieved toys/books/sippy cups/whatever from places that I never dreamed a kid could travel too, much less return from! Still got 6 months until the Terrible Twos kick in too.

We saw the Big Short the other night at this movie theater which serves beer. First off the theater (Violet Crown) is awesome and is totally the way to watch a movie outside of your house. Secondly, the Big Short is fantastic and y'all should make it a point to watch it. Not only did i find the story very interesting, it was told in a very entertaining way. Also, before the movie, we went to a new restaurant in town that serves various tacos. We ordered one of each- we ordered the whole menu. I love it when my order is The Whole Menu. Have you ever done that? Just walked up to the counter or told the waiter that you'll take one of everything? Its awesome.

Anyway, what did y'all do?

Been a quite week. Not much out of our normal routine happened. We had warm, almost hot weather for this time of year, this weekend- 60's! That squashed my plans to go skiing with a friend but i plan to do that once i get back from a ski trip- so it probably works out better. I am on my own this coming week as the wife is away on business, so Party at my house. I hope you guys had a great weekend and a great upcoming week.

Well its been a few weeks since i posted. A lot has happened. Wife was gone for a week for work. The house was still intact when she got home and was none the wiser of the shenanigans that happened. She got back and a couple of days later we went to Maine for a family ski trip, Sunday River. My dad picked it as a Christmas gift for my family and my sister and her husband. None of us have ever been but he picked it due to their highly rated Adaptive Ski program. For those who dont know, my dad suffered a spinal cord injury while riding a bike 6 years ago. He has been rehabbing and discovering his new normal ever since. One of the things which has been his motivation was being able to ski again. He got up on skis and skied our first day there!View media item 11723The trip was awesome. First, I got to see and ski with my dad. Second, getting to spend time with my family and lastly, the skiing was great. My BIL and I skied a lot and we both ski at the same level- well he skis a bit better then me, but we skied the whole mountain, or rather all 7 peaks of the resort. I skied 3 days. The first were ice the third was power. The last skiing day i chose to skip as the high was 8 degrees. Our travel back was tough because we had a late flight but had to check out mid morning so we had a lot of time to kill with my son. We spent most of our free time at the Boston Children's Museum which is a really cool spot. But alas that much time with a hyper active 18month old boy was tough and we were happy to finally get back home. I skied out local mountain a day after we got back and it made me appreciate the super long runs of Sunday River.
This past week was spent getting back to our routin, enjoying the warm weather and working on getting the house ready for our refinance appraisal, which is this upcoming week. I hate the appraisal portion of refinancing because you need to detail the house. While I keep the house prettying clean, getting it ready for an appraisal takes it too a whole new level. When you have a toddler who makes a mess of everything and a dog who sheds at the drop of a hat, it makes it a challenge. However it is good from the standpoint of much needed Spring Cleaning and the money we will save on our mortgage. The other thing that has happened this week was that my son has figured out how to climb out of his crib. The other morning i was walking down the hallway towards his nursery when i saw the handle on his door flutter and then the door opened up and he shot out of his room like a tornado. He ran out, turned my way and stoped in his tracks- we both had the same look on our faces when we made eye contact!- Oh Shit! If anyone has any input or experience in this, I would love to hear your advice. I've contemplated chicken wire and barbed wire but feel that those solutions would be frowned upon by the Forces That Be. Anyway I hope you guys had a great few weeks and let me know what you have been upto!

This was a good week. I'm teaching online now and my campus was on Spring Break, so I spent the week designing a new instructional module for essay writing---I love that kind of work---and recording video lessons for them for NEXT week, when I'LL be on break (as an online instructor I actually follow a different campus's schedule) so basically . . . two weeks, no kids. Pretty sweet!

Life insurance - on him. :) At that age no substitute for vigilance. I put a new alternator, serp belt, and tensioner in my Ford Ranger. I didn't know about auto tensioner! Good idea, I think. Anyway, Alt light went out so success! I got to see the grandkids and no. 1 daughter and new fiance! Nice guy and they are taking pre-marriage classes. So keeping fingers crossed. ;)

Boar, what are you going to do for two weeks? Staying put or traveling somewhere? Vortex, good luck on both the truck and the no.1 daughter.

Holy cow, its Palm Sunday! I feel like Easter has snuck up on me. Well Happy Palm Sunday to those of you who follow Him. This past week we had our house appraised as we are refinancing. The appraisal came back at the number which we needed so that is a big weight off of my chest. The timing was good in terms of getting me to do spring cleaning while it was still Spring. So with the house looking good, I've been out in the yard working on transplanting a bunch of azaleas and getting ready to plant a bunch of ornamental grasses to line our driveway. Also spent a lotta time spent at parks with my son doing play dates this past week. Late last week he got away from me at one park and hurt himself on some steps. He got a bunch of road rash and was fine after he got an apple sauce pouch but i was pretty shaken up. I guess boys will be boys, but parents will be parents too. So between that and my bracket falling to pieces on Day One, Thursday was a rough one. #8 Colorado lost to #9 UConn and I had them winning the whole thing over Mich State. Go Buffalo's!

How was your week? What did you do for Irish Heritage Day (aka St. Patrick's Day), and how are your brackets holding up?

Spent most of my week on Cape Neddick, 50 yards from the N. Atlantic. Ate and drank myself silly. I wouldn't come here during tourist season, but the off seasons are grand.

Well heck. Good morning S&Botl's. Having breakfast with a coffee and today a Man O' War Puro Authentico (tasty).

Funny, you begin a week with the known schedule and end it with notes that we unknown at the beginning. This week was no exception.

A bit of preface here, we are not bible thumpers, but do believe in giving back, so my wife is a member of one of the senior committees. After her two hour meeting she comes home all out of sorts and says you wouldn't believe how rude some people are. Since everything is confidential she can not share any names, but goes on to say that some of the members who are big contributors we should follow what their thoughts are on hiring, firing and buying. Ohhhh she was dissed.

Wednesday our two youngest grandkids decide it time to visit us ( they are 7 - 6 ) and the apple of grams eye. I ad some physical issues so could not go, but they had a great time, visiting I-Hop for potato cakes, a trip to a store for the boy and then a movie about a character they like. Happy grandkids, happy wife = very happy life on my side.

Thursday my issue ( back pain ) is really smacking me around so I get an appointment for Friday. Wifey is feeling sorry so she kicks me out by telling me to go to the shop for a smoke ( hates me smoking, I smell like dog poo ). I went, but not comfortable so that day ends in a tie.

Friday I'm waiting for the Dr. Appointment. If any of you are fortunate enough to have a good personal MD, then you know how I feel. I trust him, he's a good guy and knows my body well after many years of test and visits. So over I go and patiently wait. He comes in, we greet and says, ok, what's wrong. Without prolonging the description he listens, writes, uses the computer and stops. He looks at me and smiles saying, " I know what's wrong with you". Good! What's going on? Back spasms. Back spasms? Yes. Well, how do I get them to stop? They won't because they are being rigged by the arthritis. You are getting OLD! ( I'm thinking, no shit ).

He says we can help this with medicine, but if this does not work I will have to send you to an arthritis specialist.

End of week! I intended this to be a share, not a rant. Forgive me if I overstepped the intentions of this thread.

Ed, take this very seriously:
Ask your doctor to look into "Dermatran Lotion". They do a compounded lotion. No internal poisoning, and in my case (I think in most), absolutely no side effects!

In my case, it works lightyears better than the deadly cocktail of meds I was on.
Mega doses of crap that didn't hardly do anything for my quality of life or pain relief.
See if your insurance will cover a big chunk of it. My copay was $100.00 and they charge insurance $1000.00 of which Insurance paid negotiated $500.00.
If you're really suffering, it's worth a $100.00 tuition to see if you get relief.
