Padilla Signature 1932 Oscuro Limitado
Robusto: Length 5 Ring Gauge 50
Five year old Cuban Corojo Nicaraguan wrapper with Nicaraguan Criollo binder and filler
Pepin baby!!

I got in on a buy of some Padillas several days ago (thanks Chris!) and couldn’t go any longer without trying one of them. I decided on the Robusto as it was the smallest of the three.

I pulled the stick from it’s wrapper and immediately noticed there was an actual stickiness to it. It had a slight sponginess, not too hard and not too soft. The oscuro wrapper had a very dark but shiny sheen, and nosing the cigar I came away with a dark, earthy smell.

I grabbed my Swiss Army punch and began operating on the head, rotating back and forth while pushing slightly in. I could hear the popping of the tobacco as the rounded blade cut through. The punch came a way with a perfect cut.

The pre-light draw was again of earth and dark flavors. Wood and of course spiciness as with most Pepins. However, did I detect a hint of fruit in there? The draw? Impeccable.

I toasted the foot with my trusty torch lighter and once blackened, proceeded on to lighting. Plumes of bluish white smoke abounded and a heavy spiciness immediately hit my palate and nostrils with a hint of woodiness. and again a faint hint of fruit? A few more draws and this cigar settled in to what it would be the entire way through: Earth, wood, leather, spice, amongst other dark, delicious, rich flavors. The spiciness subsided to a perfect level and everything about it became smooth, almost creamy?

Unfortunately, there was a bath time emergency (daughter got water in one of her ears, which has tubes), and I didn’t get to nub it. However, I did get to roughly an inch or so from finishing and although there was some intensifying of all the same flavors, it was still smooth with the spiciness at a perfect level.

I have to say that this cigar was worth every penny and highly recommend it!

Nice review. And DAMN, but those are good pics!

Thanks for the review. Now I'm really looking forward to lighting one of these badboys up.

Nice review! What type of camera are you using for those pics?

Very nice review, and great pics! especially that one with a perfect punch!

Looks really yummy! Thanks for the pics.

I'm gonna have to get one of those Swiss Army punches. I have to say that that looks to be about the cleanest punch I've ever seen put on a cigar. Looks great!

Wow, great review and pics. That punch looks like a surgeon's work.

I was thinking the same thing. That's a nice looking tool.

I just had the exact OPPOSITE experience you had with this smoke. I bought a robusto (for the hefty tag of $24.70... but I just HAD to try it since I love Padillas). For the first half I couldn't get JACK for smoke from this thing. To add to that, it did that thing where as it burns, the wrapper isn't on well so it continues to burn, but not the wrapper, and then latter catches up and circles around and you end up with a unburnt hunk of wrapper on your ash... it did that TWICE in the first half... both dime sized wrapper pieces! Finally when it got to the second half I got good smoke and the constructions issues abated... but I'm gunna go ahead and say that I'm pretty pissed about having paid that much for a cigar with such issues! Totally ruined the smoking experience! Had to take like 3 puffs to get a mouthful, and really pulling... not cause of a tight draw... but jsut cause it wasn't smoking?! If the whole thing had been like the second half it would have been great... but $25 for 2.5" or fun... no thanks!
Chris

Oh man, that looks tasty! I'm going to have to get my hands on one.
