Ah, yet another beautiful day! A bit of hazy cloud cover, but still didn’t stop the sun from warming it up to the lower 60’s F. The wife and baby girl left to go to a second hand children’s shop (they actually just go there to play as we know the owners really well, but seem to bring back half the store). I had a little project to do outside, so thought I would grab a smoke to take along with me.
I decided to take a Padron 2000 a friend gifted me (thanks Clint) as I have heard many times this was a lot of folks go to smokes and they were excellent. I was really looking forward to giving it a try.
Out the back door I go with trusty tools and Mandy Ann right behind me. I also took a cold glass of Dr. Pepper with me (yes, I’m a Pepper). I figured I’d put my little project on hold for a bit and go have a comfortable seat on the front porch swing instead. It was actually quite cool in the shade of the porch with a fairly strong breeze blowing, but I got comfy as I could.
The Padron 2000’s maduro wrapper was dark and semi-oily with construction a bit rough, but still a good looking stick. Quite firm to the touch and the cap was somewhat misshapen on one side. It had a wonderfully dark chocolate, earthy smell. From looking at the foot, it seemed the tobacco may have been rolled/wrapped a little on the loose side.
I punched the head and it had one heckuva cap on it for sure, but it worked out just fine. Pre-light draw was quite loose. But, the flavor was…what? Holy moly….Bailey’s Irish Cream! I don’t know about anyone else, but that is what I tasted spot on; smooth, creamy, chocolate/coffee. I actually kept drawing pre-light it tasted so good!
I toasted the foot and put fire to it producing tons of smoke. I was somewhat careful when taking a draw as it was quite loose and didn’t want to get too much at once. First draw was full but not overpowering. Mmmm so many flavors, where to begin! Strong black coffee with cream and a bit of sugar. Dark, rich cocoa. Leather and earth and a finish of pepper. A hint of wood. Smooth. Delicious! I was thoroughly enjoying this smoke.
Mandy came and joined me (started snoring within minutes).
The cool breeze finally got to be a little much, so I strolled around to the back porch to get in the sun and warm back up. The burn was excellent with loads of smoke and produced a nice gray ash. The flavors were consistent throughout this smoke with the perfect mixture of creamy dark sweetness and a splash of spice to give it a wonderful kick. Unfortunately, the last inch or so became quite hot due to the loose draw, so I finally put it down and went to work on my project.
I now know why this is a lot of folks go to smokes. I was lucky enough to have been gifted two of these and am looking forward to the other.
