I’ve been looking forward to trying out this Pete Johnson cigar for a few weeks now. This lancero has a dark brown Connecticut broadleaf wrapper that is coarse with small veins throughout and a somewhat oily sheen. There’s not much give when squeezed and has a good weight in the hand. I punch the pigtailed cap and find a perfect draw with a strong taste of dark cocoa.

With the foot torched, first draw is of a medium bodied smoke with white pepper spice. Tastes of sweet cinnamon and dark, rich cocoa come through. I’m reminded of a really dark, rich fudge brownie. There’s an undertone of dark earth and roasted nuts with a very nice, long finish that’s lasting on the palate.

The burn is sharp with a very flaky, light gray ash forming that doesn’t hold well, falling off on it’s own within every quarter to half inch. The smoke continues to be a medium body with a perfect amount of spice. There’s a twang in the smoke that I find very good amongst the rich cocoa and dark roasted nut flavors.

What a delicious cigar this was with very dark, sweet flavors and a perfect amount of spice. I’d be very interested to see how these are in a few years. I guess I need to try and find a couple more to put up. :whistling:

Thanks for the great review Greg. I also really enjoyed this cigar, but my sticks are much more spongier than it seemed yours was. I'm glad you enjoyed it. This is a good stick.

OK ...I'm not a lancero man but damn it I was salivating while reading that.

Now I need to get me one of those..

Another nice review.

My box is already damn near gone :(. Great stick. Excellent review, Greg.

I loved the one I've sampled so far but found the way the ash fell of almost every 2 or 3 draws very annoying. I'll have to wait for the warmer weather to break back into my box for some more samplings.

Looks like I'm going to need to track down some El Triunfadors.

I was lucky enough to get a back-up box. :D Thanks for the review and I concur, great stick.

Indeed you should...this or the La Riqueza should have been cigar of the year for 2008. Both are rich and full of flavor.

Excellent review... I like these cigars as well. Always love your pictorials, very well done.

Very nice review, Greg. A buddy of mine just gave me a couple of these lanceros. I'm moving it up my list of cigars to smoke.

good smoke, very good smoke, i smoked two at the same time a week ago. why? I don't know.

Picked up a 5er from Napa_Smokes and smoked the first one this weekend. The stick was slightly spongy to the touch and the spiciness was there but the dark chocolate was the more detectable flavor. The ash fell off like every other puff.

This stick IMHO will be a thoroughbred in a few years.

The first one I smoked had a bad draw, but I have a few more I was going to sit on before trying. Now I guess ill have to lite one up pretty soon. Thanks for the review.

Thanks for the review.
from what I read on different reviews this is a very tasty smoke.
Cant wait to try it,just need to find it first :whistling:

Great review of a fantastic cigar. It's very "unassuming" and when I smoke them I'm always blown away about how much great flavor comes from such a cigar. Both times I've had one the guys around me say "wish I was smoking that."

John

These smokes are freakin great! I found that they seem to have a better taste profile if you take it out of the humi for an hour or two then smoke it. I have some in a dry box now to see how those will burn..
