I have to give a huge thanks to Alan (Atuck) for sending this cigar to me (along with a couple other smokes that will be reviewed as well), I believe he mentioned this was from 2005. I thought I’d take a break from all the blind taste cigars and relax a little. It couldn’t be a more beautiful day with temps in the low 70’s, plenty of sun, and a perfect breeze blowing. I went up front with the wife and baby girl to watch them play while I put fire to this cigar.

This cigar was rolled exceptionally well with a smooth, medium brown wrapper that had only a slight oiliness to it. I like the way the tobacco is left covering the foot, and I can still see the rollers fingerprint in the glue on the cap. The cigar feels a little light in the hand and firm when squeezed. I clip the head with my Palio and draw is perfect with tastes of raw tobacco. Fire to the foot, and I begin my journey.

Once lit and burning good, I take a long draw and get a nice cinnamon spice in the mild to medium bodied smoke. Tastes of slightly muted dark brown sugar, toasted nuts and some grassiness come through. There’s also another flavor I can’t quite put my taste buds on. I would swear it was close to a coconut flavor that was fairly good. The burn is sharp with a strong medium gray ash forming.

I let the ash hold for as long as it would and it lasted almost a good three inches. The smoke remained a mild to medium with a soft spice and flavors of toasted nuts, leather, and sweet brown sugar. Although the flavors are good, they are still somewhat muted. The finish is short as well, but good on the palate, and the draw has been perfect.

Towards the end, flavors changed back and forth from good to a semi metallic taste. I found the finish to become slightly lasting and very good with a nice cocoa taste. The smoke remained a mild to medium to the end, where it did start to get hot with more of the metallic taste coming through in the smoke. This was a good cigar, however I have to admit I had expected a little more as far as flavor.

Thanks again Alan for the opportunity to sample such a rare cigar!

Greg Hell of a review. I must say I enjoyed your photos a little more. Seeing what life is all about. Is that your girl swinging? Also please tell me you do not have all that land  Its my dream to have a home with about 5+ acres of land. I love landscaping as well as running around. The size of my future house does not matter as long as the land is there. Again hell of a review, and awesome pictures.

Your stinky foot and that cigar in the same picture doesn't seem right. ???

Unfortunately no, it's not all mine. It's actually leased out to farmers who grow different crops (hopefully corn this year :D ). Yep, that's my baby girl swinging. We all had a great time outside today, seeing how it was in the lower 70's.

Hey hey, my foot is NOT stinky. I'll have you know I took my monthly bath this morning and was wearing the socks, so they are clean...thank you. :D

Very nice review, thanks for sharing it with us. Your pics are second to none.

I have one of these sitting in my humi from this past fall that he rolled for me while I sat with him in LCDH in TJ. Very nice guy and more than happy to see someone enjoy the fruit of his labor. I just wish that I spoke more spanish...he's a very interesting guy to talk to. I've had a few of his customs in diff vitolas, but never the belicoso. From the sounds of it, it seems like I might need to let it sit for awhile.

From what I understand, they're excellent fresh. Of course, I've not had one fresh so have nothing to compare to.

These are hit or miss... all depends on what tobacco he's been given to roll with on a particular day. Despite what some people think, there is no "Taboada profile" any more than there is a profile for a chef given random ingredients to cook with on any particular day. He is one hell of a roller, though.

How you taste some of the things you taste is baffling to me, maybe one day the force will be strong enough within me that I as well will be able to give such a thorough review! Good work

Very true. I stuck my head in the bag of tobacco that he had for the filler for these (they called it "Cuban Gold" - whatever that means) and about crapped myself from the strength of the leaf...I'm pretty sure that I singed my nosehairs. The Belicoso that I bought was the last of the batch of tobacco that he had to roll when I was in town.

Great review. Definitely one of my all time favorite cigars.

Thanks for the excellent review Greg. Taboada is definitely on my to "try list."

Nice review bro, however I could have gone ALL day without seeing this
