I really enjoy an RYJ profile with its floral and woody flavors. I’ve had several Escudos previously, some not so good (too fresh I think) and others very good. This one has a dark brown wrapper that is coarse and semi oily with veins throughout. I hadn’t noticed before hand, however there was a crack in the wrapper starting about a quarter inch up from the foot and leading all the way to the bottom band. Hopefully it won’t hinder the smoking any. I punched the cap and found the draw with only a little resistance and a sweet tobacco taste coming through.

I torch the foot and find that familiar RYJ profile immediately coming through in the first draw. There’s a bit of spiciness on the back of the throat and the smoke is a nice mild to medium body to start. Rich floral notes come through with a taste of what remind me of a light gunpowder smell. I’m also getting a very good cocoa flavor with hints of cedar wood. Very good cigar!

The ash forming is silver gray in color and slightly flaky, but sharp nonetheless. I’m a bit concerned as the burn is getting closer to the cracked wrapper as it’s bulging a little and starting open up wider. Flavors continue to be rich and delicious with an excellent, lasting finish on the palate.

I’m thoroughly enjoying the rich flavors and perfect spice coming through in this cigar. I think with even more downtime, these cigars will develop into something even better than they are now. The burn is sharp even though there’s the crack in the wrapper, and the ash holds strong until knocked off every inch or so. After exhaling through the mouth and nose, there’s a delicious taste that lingers on the tongue.

Again, I very much enjoy an RYJ’s profile, and this one did not disappoint in the slightest. Excellent stogie!

Nice review, Greg. Just got a box of these and I have also found them to be a really good smoke.

Nice review as usual Greg. This one sounds right up my alley!

I have one of these waiting for a right moment. Sounds like it's going to be worth of wait.
