I’ve really not cared much for the Trinidad that I’ve smoked as they just haven't fit my palate very well. A little too floral I think. However, I’ve smoked quite a few of these Ingenios the past couple months and have to say they have been fantastic.

The wrapper is a medium to dark brown, coarse with prominent veins, and noticeable oiliness. It’s got a good bit of give when squeezed; however no soft spots anywhere. I punch the pigtail cap and find the draw to be quite tight, but with enough airflow to hopefully smoke well. The taste is of sweet, raw tobacco in the cold draw.

With the foot torched, I take several puffs to get the smoke flowing and then take a long draw from the slender stick. There’s a salty sweetness on the lips with the smoke cool and smooth going in. A very nice cinnamon spice is on the back of the tongue with excellent, rich flavor coming through in the medium bodied smoke. Very earthy with just a hint of the typical floral notes of a Trinidad tantalize the taste buds. I want to say the smoke seems somewhat leathery at times with an incredibly delicious finish that is lasting on the palate.

The burn is impeccable with a firm, compact dark gray ash forming. I see some noticeable tooth throughout the ash as well. I ash the cigar about every half inch and a black filler binder is revealed from underneath. The draw on this one unfortunately has far too much resistance to it, however I’m still able to get enough of the rich, medium bodied smoke out to enjoy it tremendously. Along with all the flavors previously described, I’m getting what seems to be a fresh baked ginger bread cookie taste. Very good cigar!

Flavors became even more incredibly rich and complex towards the last third. There was a perfect amount of spice in the medium bodied smoke with a delicious, lasting finish on the palate when exhaling slowly through the mouth and nose. This cigar performed almost flawlessly, with the draw being the only exception, however it opened up quite well towards the end. Fantastic burn and delicious, rich flavors that were quite complex, just an incredibly enjoyable smoke!

As soon as I saw this review posted, I ran to the humi and grabbed an Ingenio. I'm smoking it now and yes, I'll be placing an order tomorrow.

I'm tellin' ya. They are freakin' excellent IMHO.

It is pretty friggin' fantastic. Draw is a little tight on this one as well, but nothing unbearable.

I've yet to try one of mine and was hoping to hear that they were a worthwhile investment. Thanks, Greg! My fears are officially allayed.

Nice review Greg. Is that a Tobacco Caterpillar? Great pix...

Not tobacco, I believe it's just a plain ol' tent caterpillar. We have thousands of them all over the place devouring huge sections of leaves (especially in my walnut). After a while they build a silky "tent" to do their bidness.

Wow these sound excellent!

Box split anyone? :whistling:

this is my favorite trinidad. i thought i would prefer the reyes, a small but superbly made cigar, but i keep coming back to the ingenios. yes, one or two have been on the tight side, but nothing unsmokeable.

these should be brilliant in a few years.

cheers

Me too...but I ran out back and grabbed a big caterpiller and smoked the Sh!t out of that. I'll post pics later...it was pretty ugly.

Hopefully you lit the right end. :D

Nice review Greg! I've yet to try anything from Trinidad, even the NC ones. Have any suggestions on the NC side of the spectrum?

I haven't really enjoyed mine at all AND I'm a fundadore fan. I must've got a bad box then, I'm going to go home and smoke another to find out!

Thanks for the review!

Nothing really comes to mind NC to match these Ingenios I've been smoking. Of course, I've never smoked a NC Trinidad.

Hah, no worries! :) I guess I will just have to grab a couple random Trinidads from the B&M and just give them a try!
