I’ve heard good things and bad things about this cigar, however I’m going to try one for myself and see how I like it. This is definitely one meaty looking stick with an oily, medium brown chocolate wrapper that is slightly coarse with one prominent vein running up the length. Squeezing the cigar, I find it to have a decent amount of give, almost spongy, with a good weight in the hand. I used the largest ring on my knife to punch the head and found the draw on the loose side with a straightforward, young tobacco taste.
After torching the foot and a good burn going, I take a couple of puffs and then a slow, long draw. Oh my, I can already tell from the first draw I’m going to be getting a box of these. I immediately picked up a Montecristo profile of perfect cinnamon spice with an incredibly rich citrus zest, toasted almond, and a light woodiness. The smoke itself is a mild to medium body that is quite smooth over the tongue and an excellent finish is left on the palate after exhaling. Friggin’ fantastic cigar, and I’m just in the first inch!
I can definitely safely say that there is a nice amount of nicotine in this cigar from the buzz it’s giving me. Thoroughly enjoyable it is!
The burn isn’t sharp, however does fairly well considering the thickness of the wrapper. A medium gray, mottled ash is forming and is quite flaky with small flakes falling off here and there. I ash the cigar about three quarters of an inch in and the inner ash is both pitch black in spots as well as a light gray in spots. Interesting. Flavors continue as previously described with the citrus zest standing out the most, simply sensational in my opinion.
About the halfway mark, the body picked up to a good medium and further on in a charred wood taste started coming through. It started burning a bit hot at the end, I think mostly due to the looseness in the draw. I thoroughly enjoyed this smoke and believe they are only going to get better with age.
