It is really nice out this morning, temperature gauge reading right around 68F, only a slight breeze, a few clouds not letting the sun heat it up too quick. Everything is the most beautiful green you could imagine. Fresh cup of coffee, Tinker (the cat) chillin’ in his (my) chair, and a SLR Lonnie from ’98 cab of 50; yep, a very nice morning indeed!

This is one very well taken care of Lonsdale as it has oils in the dark brown wrapper like it was just freshly rolled. I find the construction excellent with a nice sponginess when squeezed, but not too much, a perfect triple cap on top, and a good weight in the hand. I finally found my Swiss Army punch knife (in the bottom back of my couch), and use the medium sized ring to punch the cap to find an absolutely perfect draw with taste of straightforward mature tobacco.

With the foot toasted, a couple of puffs, smoke flows effortlessly in the spot on draw. I immediately get an incredibly rich flavor in the mild to medium bodied smoke with perfect spice. There’s a mixture of very rich, sweet black coffee and what seems to be floral notes. I’m also tasting hints of herbal, maybe vegetable. Fantastic flavor! The finish is fantastic with a cinnamon/brown sugar taste lingering on the palate.

The burn is sharp with a firmly layered light and dark gray ash forming that I knock off about every three quarter inch. Wrapper, binder, and filler are all smoking in perfect unison to one another as the foot is completely flat when ashed. Smoke is flowing well from the perfect draw, smooth and creamy with simply fantastic flavor. A very rich, medium bodied smoke at the halfway point that seems quite complex.

This is without a doubt the best SLR I’ve smoked to date; simply incredible. I have to give a sincere thanks to my buddy John (Jfields) for sending me this cigar. Thank you sir! I couldn’t imagine having a cab of these as they surely wouldn’t last long.

Every one I've had was fantastic. '99s are about 1/2 pt less on a 1-10 scale(a little less creamy.)!

I know what I'm smoking in a few minutes. :D

Thanks for reviewing this Greg. The flavors were spot on for the most part, but I'll have to look for the cinnamon/brown sugar.

Sounds like a great stick Greg. That pic with the glowing cherry is sweet. Very nicely done.

Another good review, Greg. 10-11 years old, and it sounded like the cigar was still richly flavorful.

I'm new to Cuban Cigars, and this brand never really seemed to jump out at me in my reading.

I was very suprised when I smoked my first SLR as it was about 4 years old, and tasted like the more fresh Cuban Cigars I've smoked.

I wonder if this is fairly common for this brand?

To date, I'd have to say that these have been the most enjoyable Cuban Cigars I've smoked.

Now my mouth is watering lol.

Great review. By the way, aren't those swiss army punches just the best? I don't know when the last time I used my Palio was. Only when I smoke torpedoes I guess.

Yep, I lost mine for two days and was in DT's!
