It’s been a rather relaxing day with not much going on. Just cooked up a huge mess of buttermilk biscuits, sausage, and country ham to make biscuits for the freezer. Made extra biscuits to have some sausage gravy for dinner. Mmmm…mmm!

However, before I finish up the gravy, I decided to come out and have a short smoke and chose a Cohiba M5 Magicos. I recall the first Cohiba Maduro I smoked and it didn’t sit well on my palate at all, just didn’t seem right a Cuban with a maduro wrapper. But, Jeff got me with a Genios in our blind taste test, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now…I’m hooked! This one is a shorter version with a dark maduro wrapper, noticeable oils, and prominent veins. It feels quite firm, has a good weight in the hand, and with the triple cap punched I find a perfect draw.

I torch the foot, get a good fire going, and take a few puffs to get the smoke flowing well then take a long draw. A perfect spice hits the back of the throat, and I can immediately taste the sweet maduro in the medium bodied smoke. There are also flavors of dark earth, worn leather, and dark roasted nuts coming through. Absolutely rich and delicious.

The burn is sharp for the first inch or so, and then wants to get a little crazy. A dark gray ash is forming that holds strong until knocked off, the draw is perfect. I continue to get the sweet, rich maduro flavor with every draw as well as other complex tastes. I will say that one flavor I find very strange is that of soapiness.

I finished the cigar up, had the wife and baby girl in the kitchen wondering where there food is. This was an excellent smoke with good burn, perfect draw, rich complex flavors, and a delicious finish left on the palate that I hate to ruin with eating sausage n’ gravy biscuits. Ah well, gotta do what I gotta do. :D

Looks like a winner. Thanks for the review. You're making me want sausage and gravy biscuits now...damn you

Nice review. I was gifted one of these by a great botl at the last Philly herf and can't wait to try it myself.

I had one in Cuba last month. Maybe it was young, maybe a bit damp, but sure as there's shit in a dead cat my experience wasn't close to yours.

Glad you enjoyed it though!!

I've got two 10 ct boxes of the Magicos that I am going to let sit for a while because while I love the secretos, the burn was not what I expected. They definately come moist and the full 25ct box I have left will also sit for while. I do not want to have the same experience with any of them.

nice review, I rarely smoke cigars this short but this one works for its ring/size. Its a good cigar
