It’s a miserable looking day with clouds and fairly strong wind blowing, temperature gauge reading right at sixty-five degrees (F). Actually, I think it feels pretty darn good if you ask me. After giving the wife and baby girl some lovin’, I go digging for something to come out and smoke with a fresh brewed cup of coffee. Ah yes, I’ve actually not tried one of these, a Punch Robusto RE (2005 release – Switzerland).

This is a somewhat rough looking cigar with the wrapper a bit blotchy, coarse, and a couple of prominent veins. It has a slight sponginess when squeezed, feels a little too light in the hand, and after the triple cap is punched I find the draw very loose with a taste of musty tobacco coming through.

I put fire to the foot using my Zippo Z-Plus, taking my time and enjoying watching the glowing orange embers come to life. After getting the foot burning even, I take a quick puff to make sure smoke is flowing well, and then a good draw. A strong spice comes through at first, hitting the back of the tongue and throat perfectly. I immediately get a sweet bread flavor, rich and delicious, with a taste of cinnamon and wood. There’s also a black licorice underneath, dark and absolutely fantastic on the palate.

The burn isn’t perfect and requires a small touch-up now and then, however not bad overall. There’s a medium to dark gray ash forming with slight tooth and holds well until ashed about every three quarter inch. The draw, although quite loose, is working well allowing an abundance of deliciously smooth, medium to full bodied smoke to flow freely. Flavors are quite complex, sweet and very rich with an incredibly lasting finish on the palate.

Heading into the final third, a perfect spiciness continues to come through in the smooth, almost creamy, medium to full bodied smoke. Flavors are simply incredible with fresh baked bread, dark roasted nuts, wood, earth, and cocoa; quite complex to my palate. The finish is long and lasting well after exhaling.

I can’t say enough about how fantastic this cigar was from beginning to nubby little end. Although the draw was loose and the burn all over the place, the cigar smoked well and matched my palate perfectly with a good medium to full body, excellent spiciness, rich complex flavors, and a finish that was simply incredible. It never burned hot even down to the last bit, and I hated to see it end. Thoroughly enjoyable smoke!
