After a good ‘ol sausage biscuit, I topped off my coffee and headed out to the back porch to put fire to this AVO LE 08. It’s supposed to be a hot one today with temps reaching close to the 100F mark. However, it’s nice out this morning at 75F and a soft breeze blowing. Inspecting the AVO, it has a medium to light brown Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper with not much by way of oils that I can see. It’s somewhat coarse with one prominent vein running the length. I find it very firm when squeezed, a bit light in the hand, and with the cap punched the draw is quite loose with a sweet tobacco taste coming through.

After getting the foot burning good, first draw is very powerful with a strong spice and the smoke full bodied. Actually took me a little by surprise as I wasn’t expecting that much power. After a couple more draws, the spice subsided slightly, however the body seems to remain quite full to my palate and very good I must say. There’s sweetness on the lips and in the smoke with tastes of cinnamon spice, wood, and citrus flavors coming through.

The burn is very sharp with a medium gray ash that actually falls off very easily. Although the draw has very little resistance, it is still working well with a good full-bodied smoke flowing effortlessly and in great abundance. I’m still getting a nice spiciness in the smoke and very sweet, woody flavors with hints of citrus. I have to say there’s not much by way of richness in the smoke to my palate, however still quite good with a decent enough finish that is somewhat lasting. I will also say I’m detecting a slight bitterness coming through as well.

Towards the end, flavors intensified somewhat seemingly becoming stronger, darker in taste. Powerful smoke poured from the cigar, actually making me feel somewhat woozy. I usually like such power, however it’s just too early in the morning for me. I’m also still detecting a slight bitterness.

This was a good cigar with sharp burn, loose draw that still worked well, consistent sweet flavor of wood and citrus, with a decent enough finish left on the palate. It really didn’t knock my socks off so to speak, but still was a good smoke. I was quite surprised at how spicy and full-bodied the smoke was all the way through, really strong even for my palate. I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to find these, however I would put fire to another if I came across one and would definitely be a late afternoon smoke.

I've never found this cigar to be very powerful. I would put it right in the medium range. Perhaps it was the time of day? I do love the LE 08 though. They are tasting much better now than when they hit the shelves fresh. Grassy with a little white pepper... AVO goodness.

How was the sausage biscuit. Did it have the essence of herbs and spices. Did you decide to go with gravy or just put the meat right on the bread. Should one of my smoking dreams come true and I be in your neck of the woods and invited for dinner I would so love to have biscuits and gravy, what a great southern dish.

Also, AVO LE is a pretty good cigar.

I agree, Mick.

These are smoking really great right now. I wish I had gotten my hands on more. If the '09s improve as the '08s did, they will be outstanding.

Guess I'm going to have to revist some Avo's. I've only had a few of the regular lines, and wasn't blown away by them, but that was also a long time ago, and my palate has changed to appreciate more subtle nuances in a cigar. Maybe the LE's are worth a try.

You have some good ones right at your fingertips. Although, I'm not sure if the 07s are as good as the 08s. That's certainly subjective. Definitely not as good as the 05s.

Again, 'not as good' is quite relative.
