What a perfectly beautiful day. The sky is a light baby blue with cotton like clouds here and there, barely moving. There’s only a faint breeze, just enough to make the shadows of the walnut tree move slightly, and June bugs are buzzing all around me as I sit here. I can hear a woodpecker slowly hammering on a tree in the nearby woods.

I brought a cool bottle of water and a Taboada Gold Medal out with me to enjoy on such a fine day. The wrapper on this cigar is very dark, almost a maduro in color, has one prominent vein running the length, and noticeable oils when held in the sun. It has a slight sponginess when squeezed with no hard spots to be found, a solid weight in the hand, and with the cap punched I find the draw with just a tad more resistance than I like, but air still flowing well. The taste coming through in the cold draw is that of straightforward tobacco.

As I’m toasting the foot, the smoke coming from the forming embers drifts to my nose and smells incredibly good. With the foot burning perfectly, I take a long, slow draw and get a perfect spice on the back of the throat. The smoke itself is a good medium in body and the flavor is absolutely delicious. I swear I can taste sweet maduro coming through. Flavors are rich and seem quite complex with notes of worn leather, dark wood, toasted nuts (Cashew), and a nice cinnamon spice.

The burn is sharp with a medium to light gray ash forming that holds well until tapped off and the draw is working perfectly with the strength of the smoke. Flavors continue to be rich and complex. Meaty keeps popping into my head. The smoke is thick and heavy on the palate, leaving an incredibly lasting finish on the palate after slowly exhaling through the mouth.

I’m thoroughly relaxed and very much enjoying the day. Cicadas are singing all in the trees, the sound almost entrancing. That with the soft breeze blowing through the leaves and the sun, which actually feels good for a change, soaking into me, I feel as if I could simply drift off quite easily. My wife comes out and lets me know Jessica is not feeling well, which I already know, and so I mosey on around to the back porch with her and have a seat in my comfy chair. She heads back in and I continue on with this fantastic cigar.

Around the halfway mark, the smoke turns to a full body and the flavors continue to be rich yet start leaning more towards a good, straightforward tobacco. The burn remains sharp with the draw seeming to open up just a tad bit more than it had been, smoke flowing effortlessly through. Mandy and Tinker come to join me and crash out to my left, got it made they do.

This was without a doubt one of the best custom rolls I’ve had from Taboada, performing perfectly throughout the entire smoke. It really opened up towards the very end, and I had to take sips as it was very full bodied. The finish was fantastic, and I wished it didn’t have to end. Thank you Jim for sending this cigar to me as it was a perfect smoke for a perfect Sunday afternoon.

Thanks for the nice review!

It seems like every week when he does a review with pictures of the herd, they are getting larger and larger...Greg, what the heck are you feeding them? :D

Great review Greg, I've never heard of these before. Sounds like it was a great way to kick off the week!

Your Jack Russell reminds me of living in Ireland.

The bike route I rode often took me past the residence of a Jack Russell...believe me it was his house, not his owners! Despite my aggressive efforts to keep him off my heels, I could always count on him chasing me down the road. That little bastard!

Though I'm sure your dog is nice!

Thanks for the reviews.
