This cigar is currently rolled, in small quantities, out of the Partagas factory in Havana, with the No. 2 (6 ¾ x 43) being the most popular in the line. The wrapper on this particular stick is a Colorado shade, has very little oil noticeable, and a prominent vein running the length. There’s a good weight in the hand and has a good bit of give when squeezed, a couple of very soft spots towards the foot. I punch a perfect hole in the cap and thump the head to get rid of any loose flakes. The draw has more resistance than I like, however air is coming through with a taste of matured tobacco and a hint of mustiness.

It takes no time at all to get fire to the foot and it smells wonderful as the smoke reaches my nose. I take a couple puffs that produces volumes of bluish white smoke. It’s been a good while since I’ve smoked one of these, and with taking my first draw I’m reminded why the two boxes I had were gone rather quickly. A perfect spice comes through in the initial draw with the smoke a good medium strength and quite rich on the palate. Flavors are that of semi-sweet chocolate, worn leather and cedar wood with a hint of cinnamon. The finish is deliciously rich and long on the palate.

The ash is a medium gray, forming layers from each draw taken and falls off easily after just a half-inch in. Although the draw is a bit on the tight side, it is working perfectly with the medium to almost full strength of the smoke, just the right amount coming through. Slowly exhaling through the mouth and nose, flavors continue to be incredibly rich with the finish lasting on the palate, simply delicious.

Passing through the halfway point, the draw really tightens up for some reason, however taking a slow, long draw plenty of the rich smoke is still produced of which I’m very much enjoying. Flavors have been consistent, possibly a raw honey taste joins the mix to make a simply incredible smoke with the finish lasting. The burn remains sharp with the ash a medium gray, holding until tapped off in the ashtray with the exception of the first quarter inch (that plopped on the laptop keys…dagnabbit).

In the final third, the draw opened back up really well producing volumes of smooth, rich, medium to almost full-bodied smoke. This was a simply fantastic cigar that I thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end. With a sharp burn, rich flavors, and lasting finish, I couldn’t have picked a better smoke for my last morning of vacation. An excellent smoke to say the least!

Vacation huh... So that's why you've been putting up so many reviews this week. I think I want to try every cigar you've reviewed. I'm really thankful that your reviews are indexed. Enjoy your last day of vacation Brother!

I have a couple of No. 1s left from 1998. They may be the best Cubans that I have ever smoked IMHO. Very, very tasty

Great review Greg! I have just not been able to find the intrigue of these, though my palate is not as sophisticated as Greg's LOL.

Great review Greg, as usual.

I have seen these and others in the line before, but didn't realize they were so highly rated.

Congrats for expanding the short list for my next shopping trip
