I was rummaging through a few boxes for a review stick, came across this HDM Epi 1, and immediately knew this was my smoke for the afternoon. The wrapper looks the color of caramel, is coarse with small veins throughout, and has only a small amount of oiliness. There’s a slight crunch when squeezing the cigar, and I find it quite firm with a good weight in the hand. After punching the cap and testing the cold draw, I find it to have a perfect resistance with very good sweet tobacco taste.

With the foot nice and toasty, I put the torch to it and get a nice, even burn going in no time. A couple of puffs are taken to get the smoke flowing, and then a good draw that reveals a perfect white pepper spice on the back of the throat. The smoke is a mild to almost medium strength with a smoothness to it, flavors of rich toasted nuts, wood, and a bit of cinnamon come through that are delicious, however the finish is rather short on the palate.

The burn is sharp with a medium gray ash forming that holds strong until tapped off in the ashtray. I’m finding the draw spot on, smoke continuing to be a mild to almost medium strength with a perfect white pepper spice on the throat and delicious flavors as previously described. There’s still a rather short finish, which is good upon initial exhale yet doesn’t last long after.

This was a very good smoke with sharp burn, strong ash, delicious, rich flavors and the finish good, but not as lasting as I would like. Towards the end it did get slightly hot and a charred wood flavor started coming through but was still good. Thoroughly enjoyable smoke for a lazy Saturday afternoon.
