I haven’t put fire to a Famosos in quite some time, reason being I’ve only had one left in the humi, which is actually the last one left from the great Famosos GB (07 I think these were). Wonder whatever happened to Lou. After looking through my review thread, I saw there was no review on one of these, so what they hey. The wrapper is a golden brown with noticeable oils and a prominent patchwork of veins. It’s firm and has a bit of crunch when squeezed, feels to have a good weight in the hand, and with the cap punched I find a perfect draw with taste of straightforward tobacco.

After getting the foot burning well, I take a couple of puffs and then a long draw and get a soft pepper spice on the back of the throat with the smoke a medium strength and flowing in abundance. One of the initial flavors, and one that I’ve only found in the Famosos vitola, is that of very clean, almost soapy taste. Yes, soapy is what comes to mind, and a flavor I thoroughly enjoy. I also get a bit of cocoa, toasted nuts, and a golden honey with hints of fruit.

The burn is very sharp with a compact, medium to dark gray ash forming that has small tooth throughout, and holds strong until tapped off in the ashtray. A good, medium strength smoke is flowing well through the perfect draw and the spice seems to pick up slightly heading into the halfway mark. Flavors are rich and simply delicious, consistent as before with a lasting finish that is very clean on the palate.

Hitting the final third, the cigar is performing perfectly with sharp burn, perfect draw, flavors incredibly rich and delicious, and lasting finish. There’s a luscious, dark ripe fruit and sweet cocoa that is most prominent, working incredibly well together. I prefer the Famosos over any other vitola in the VR line, with the exception of the Fundadore (especially the 98’s :D ). Guess it’s time to find more!

nice Greg. I am real low on em myself. I also really love the Don Alejandros too, but the famosos I think have the most flavor out of the line. PM incoming!

Greg,
What cutter do you use? I have noticed that you always have a great consistent cut.

Great review as always. You are the man Greg. Those VR Famosos sound tasty!

Great review, bro. The Famoso is one fantastic cigar, no doubt. That's what got us into the whole GB of '07, right? If you're that low on them, maybe it's time to start up anurd 'un!

I think the ill-fated GB for these was in May/June of 2008. I was not on CP in 2007 and was part of a VR Famosos GB that did not work out.

They do look very good. I always appreciate your reviews Greg.

That was last year, wasn't it? Seems so much longer ago...
