Other than a strong breeze blowing, it’s yet another gorgeous day out. With the wife laying out getting some sun and the baby girl jumping on her trampoline, I sit back under the walnut tree and pop the cap on a bottle of Imperial Oatmeal Stout and get ready to put fire to a 2005 Cohiba Esplendido that I’ve been holding onto for a couple years now. The cigar has a golden brown wrapper that is oily and smooth with the exception of one vein running the length. Squeezing the cigar, I find a soft spot about midway, and right at the band it feels rock hard. After punching the cap, I find the draw with a little more resistance than I like, however air is flowing well enough with taste of well matured straightforward tobacco.

I pour a glass of the stout, take a long pull, and then set forth putting fire to the foot. Once lit and burning even, I take a few puffs and then a long draw. Medium strength smoke hits the palate with a medium peppery spice on the back of the tongue and throat. Flavors are unbelievable rich right from the start with taste of buttery cream, dark earth, and a smidgen of sweetened dark cocoa.

The burn is sharp with compact layers of dark to medium gray ash forming that holds until tapped off. Through the first third and into halfway, the smoke continues to be medium to almost full strength with the spice hitting the palate just right. Flavors are deeply rich and after exhaling slowly through the mouth and nose, a delicious finish is left making me smack my lips time and again.

This is probably one of the best Cohibas I’ve smoked to date with sharp burn, perfect draw, and deliciously rich and creamy smoke hitting the palate just right, the finish lasting long after exhaling. I’ve almost emptied the bottle of Oatmeal stout and am feeling it quite well towards the very end of the smoke. What an incredibly wonderful afternoon!

Nice review Greg! Hard to beat an Espy when they're on.

Personally, Greg... I much prefer the taste of 'middle' earth. Now that's flavour
