Thunderstorms last night, at least that’s what the wife says as I slept the whole night without waking. Up this morning and while fixing coffee and a blueberry bagel, I hear the low rumbling of thunder in the distance. After finishing up the delicious bagel, I grab a HDM Petit Robusto, one that was just received from Khari in our box split, and headed out. It’s raining out with humidity off the charts, of course. I’m expecting the cigar to start wrinkling from all the moisture, and it does but only slightly. The wrapper is a medium brown and somewhat blotchy, noticeable oil is present with small veins running throughout. It has a good weight for its size and no hard spots, yet is quite “lumpy” all over. I punch the cap and find the draw perfect with a sweet and sour taste of tobacco.

Once I have the foot toasted well and burning even, I take a few quick puffs and then a long draw that brings delicious, rich medium strength smoke over the palate. There’s a nice medium peppery spiciness on the back of the tongue and throat in a perfect amount. Again, the smoke is very rich in flavor with taste of ginger bread, cocoa, cedar wood, and a hint of toasted nuts coming through with a lasting finish that is lip smacking good.

The burn is a little rough, leaning this way and that during the first third, however nothing that requires touching up. Tons of smoke is flowing through the perfect draw, still a good medium strength with excellent spice hitting the tongue and throat. Flavors remain consistent, rich and delicious with the finish long on the palate.

At one point the sun tries to come out, however it is short lived as the clouds take over again with rain looming. Towards the final third, the petit robusto is producing a huge abundance of smoke that seems to have picked up in strength and is now full strength. The burn leans to one side, however corrects itself well enough. Flavors continue to be as previously described; toasted bread the dominant taste coming through on my taste buds. This was indeed an excellent smoke with decent burn, perfect draw, tons of delicious medium to full strength smoke, and a very rich, lasting finish. I thoroughly enjoyed this cigar!

Nice review, Greg, and similar to my one experience.

A box has been on my list since a buddy gifted me one 6 months ago.

Great job Greg, This is one of my favorite breakfast smokes, short on time but long on flavor that seems to linger on your lips for a while after its done. Thanks for the great review!
J.

Great Review. Sounds as if I should try one of these sticks.
