I was lucky enough to trade for this cigar in Phil’s latest pass, and figured today was good a day as any to put fire to it. I headed to the walnut tree to sit in the shade and somewhat cool breeze, although it’s still quite hot out and a bit muggy. The cigar has excellent construction with golden brown wrapper and after removing the cello I can see tiny crystals reflecting in the sunlight. It has one small vein on the back side from the band face, is very firm when squeezed, and noticeable oil throughout. Once the head is clipped, I test the draw and am able to get air through, should be good to go once lit.

With fire to the tapered foot, I take a number of quick puffs and smoke begins to flow very well. I take a long draw and find the smoke a good medium to almost full strength with a nice spiciness on the back of the tongue and throat. What really gets me is the absolute delicious richness on the palate as I slowly exhale, tastes of buttery bread and toasted nuts come through with a lasting finish. Wow this thing is good!

A third in, and I’m somewhat surprised to find the strength is mellowing to a mild/medium with very little spice. I’m wondering if maybe the draw is a bit on the tight side, however it doesn’t seem like it when smoking. Possibly a tunnel in there somewhere, yet the cigar has a perfectly sharp burn going. Even with the rather mild strength, flavors are incredibly rich and delicious with a fantastic finish, lasting long on the palate.

I have no doubt the ash would’ve held the entire smoke, however I didn’t quite place it right in my mouth about the halfway mark and dropped it, scattering ash all over. Damn. I picked the cigar back up and continued smoking and thoroughly enjoying each wonderful draw. The smoke did pick back up in strength and spice as I headed into the final third, which hit my palate perfectly. Flavors continued to be rich with the body seeming rather light.

This was one excellent cigar with perfect burn, draw, and rich, delicious flavors from beginning to end. It would be an awesome thing to be able to get these cigars at an affordable price and in abundance as it was a perfect size for me. Fantastic Opus!

An amazing cigar for sure!! I noticed quite a bit of cinnamon spice in the one I had and it was actually the only time I've ever noticed a distinct cinnamon like flavor in a cigar.

I've got one more in the humi and something is telling me to find more!

I've a few of these already from the CFCF 2009 box and the one I had was pretty strong. It was definitely good and will be interesting to see how my box of 18 will age. I think they will develop into a wonderful cigar given some time. I will say it again that this is a great Opus X with a lot of potential. I noticed the strength that kicked like a mule when I've smoked mine.

I have one of these in my humidor, can't wait for the opportunity to smoke it. My only constraints are time, with two young children it's hard to find a block of time alone to dedicate to this fine cigar. Glad you enjoyed it!

Very nice review, as always buddy! I have one of these in the humi thanks to my SS, and am looking forward to firing it up!

Sure it isn't the Opus X Love Story? Since the Love Affairs didn't come out till the Xmas Opus X Shipment.

Well if you have a box of 18, I'm sure that his SS was somehow able to procure one somehow...

Raining on the boy's parade and whatnot... :p

This review is really well done and helpful. I'm going to have to give these things a shot, maybe sometime this week.
