Slept in late this morning not getting up to almost nine a.m.! Felt good not having to hear that alarm clock and jump out of bed, definitely a long week having been in training for work. After frying up some French toast for myself and the family, I topped off the coffee cup and headed out to the back porch to fire up a Cohiba Siglo IV, not sure of the date but was told it had at least a couple years on it. It was already sweltering hot with a thick mugginess in the air, however got as comfortable as I could, grabbed my punch, torch, camera and got started.

I’m always nervous about a Cohiba due to having had so many fake, however inspecting this one it definitely looked to be the genuine article with medium, dull brown wrapper with noticeable oils and veins running throughout. It was firm when squeezed, had a good weight in the hand, and after punching the cap I found the draw with a little more resistance than I like, however plenty of air flowed through with taste of straightforward tobacco.

With the foot torched and the burn even, I took a few puffs and then let it rest for a number of seconds, then took several more puffs and again, let the burn get a good quarter inch of ash. My first long draw was full of medium strength smoke and a wonderful spice that hit the back of the tongue and throat just right. As with most Cohibas with good age, the flavor was incredibly rich right from the start leaving an amazingly delicious finish on the palate after exhaling.

A third in and the burn is a bit uneven, however corrects itself well enough with a medium gray ash forming that holds strong. At one point, I did have to do a great deal of puffing as the cigar seemed to want to go out on me, seemed like some tunneling issues possibly. I ashed the cigar and used my torch lighter to do some touching-up, and the cigar started to burn/draw well again. The strength and spice continued to be a good medium to almost full in strength with the flavors simply amazing in true Cohiba style. Smooth and creamy with a buttery, vanilla, earthy, woodsy, hay taste, sweet and delicious.

Halfway and into the final third, the burn still wanted to be somewhat uneven and it took a number of puffs before I was able to take a long draw of good smoke. And good it was, not just good, but GREAT! My buddy Ray showed up on his motorcycle., we were going to make a trip to Florence (liquor store), however he wasn’t supposed to show up until around noon. To my surprise, I had been enjoying the cigar so much that over an hour and a half had gone by in no time. This was an amazingly good cigar, thoroughly enjoyed it!

It looks fantastic Greg, thanks for the review... I may have to get me some of these!!!

Been staring at one in my humi for a while thanks to a fine BOTL here. Don't know what I'm waiting for to spark it up. Baby's asleep, wife left to hang with her sister... Might do it NOW!

I had a fresh one the other day that wasn't very good either. The rest are going away for a little nap.
