I’ve got to give a huge thanks to John as right after my birthday he hit me with a fantastic bomb of goodies, which included this Short Shagfoot. This is definitely a fresh rolled cigar as it is still moist, very spongy when squeezed, and heavy in the hand. It has a medium brown wrapper full of oils, minimal veins, and a perfectly constructed cap. I use my punch to open up the cap; however find the draw very tight, so then take my Palio and clip a small piece off the head. There’s a small amount of air flowing through, so roll the cigar between my fingers to try and loosen up the tobacco, which works perfectly as the draw opens up with just the right amount of resistance.

I slowly torch the shag foot and blow on the forming embers letting it burn through the filler slowly. Before the fire reaches the wrapper, I take a couple good puffs and then a long draw to get a taste of just the filler, which I find very powerful in both spice and strength but with a rich, sweet flavor in the finish. Once the fire reaches the wrapper, I take another long draw and get a good medium strength with perfect white pepper spice on the back of the tongue and throat. Flavors are rich with tastes of fresh baked bread and sweet cinnamon, the finish lasting on the palate.

A third in and medium to full strength smoke is flowing well through the perfect draw. There’s a sharp burn with the ash medium to light gray, holding strong until tapped off, however right after ashing the fire goes out. After re-lighting, I’m finding it difficult to keep the cigar lit, which I know is because of how wet the tobacco is. Flavors are intense with strong taste of sweet tobacco, the finish continuing to be lasting.

Heading into the halfway mark, I’m having a hard time keeping the cigar lit doing a good bit of puffing and purging. The smoke is now more of a full strength with the body full as well. There’s a really wonderful smell that keeps coming to my nose reminding me of how tobacco leaf smells while fermenting in a tobacco barn, sweet and delicious. The burn continues to be sharp with smoke flowing well through the perfect draw and rich, intense flavors are hitting the palate with the finish continuing to be lasting.

If not for this cigar being so damp, it would have been absolutely perfect with sharp burn, perfect draw, and rich, delicious flavors that left a lasting finish on the palate. Thoroughly enjoyed it John, thank you sir!

I unfurtunately can't find the pics I took...wife must've deleted them.
