Ah my first day of vacation and couldn’t ask for a more beautiful day. The wife decided to rearrange the baby girl’s room, so I decided to sneak out and come have a nice, relaxing smoke out on the swing. JL was incredibly kind enough to send a second round of unbelievably excellent smokes for my taking on the Casa Blanca, so I’m putting fire to the first of three; a ’98 Punch SS1. The cigar has perfect construction with a medium brown wrapper that has a gorgeous oily sheen when held in the sunlight. There’s one prominent vein running the length with smaller veins coming from it in box like fashion, and small but noticeable tooth throughout. It has a good weight in the hand, is firm when squeezed, and with the perfect triple cap punched (didn’t even notice the writing until taking the pic), I find the draw with perfect resistance. Taste of well matured straightforward tobacco comes through in the cold draw.

As I torch the foot, the smoke wafting up to my nose is fantastic, and after a couple good puffs to get the smoke flowing, I take a long, slow draw. Perfect white pepper spice hits the back of the tongue and throat, the strength is a good medium with a nice, light body that leaves a minimal amount of oiliness on the palate. Flavors are incredibly rich and delicious with notes of wood, vanilla, sweet cocoa, and a wonderful earthiness. I exhale slowly through the mouth and nose relishing every second of the delicious flavor left in the long, lasting finish.

Through the first third the burn is razor sharp with a mottled dark and light gray ash forming in layers, tooth is noticeable all through it. Medium strength smoke is flowing effortlessly through the perfect draw with the spice medium as well; flavors are rich and seemingly complex to my palate. What a fantastic smoke so far with the finish lasting.

A soft, cool breeze blows through rustling the multi-colored leaves from their resting place in the trees, slowly making their way to land in the yard; won’t be long before it’s time to get the blower out. I’m halfway through this incredible cigar and totally relaxed with the quietness around me other than an occasional acorn landing on the wrought iron table in front of me, making me stop for a second and look for a squirrel. I sit my laptop to the side for a bit, stretching out on the swing and enjoy the day.

To finish this up, the cigar performed flawlessly to the end with sharp burn, perfect draw, incredibly rich flavor and lasting finish. I will say that the strength and spice both kicked up a notch towards the end with a charred wood coming into play, not in a bad way at all. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect, lazy afternoon than this. Thanks so much JL for an absolutely wonderful cigar, one that was more than thoroughly enjoyed.
