Woke up just as light was peeking through the window shades, heard rain on the awning outside, so rolled over and went back to sleep for about another hour. I could’ve kept right on sleeping with the house quiet and the sound of that rain. But, I had to make myself get up as it would just be that more difficult to get up to that 5:30 a.m. alarm tomorrow morning. The wife and baby girl were up shortly after, Jess always has a big smile that brightens even the dreariest day, “Good morning daddy!” she says and runs at me arms wide for the big morning hug. She is growing up so, so fast.

After a good breakfast and the morning coffee poured in the cup, I go rummage through the humis as always looking for something I haven’t smoked yet. It usually depends on the time of day as well as my mood which cigar I choose. Now days I have to check my review thread and get all excited when the one chosen isn’t on there. This morning it’s a Rafael Gonzalez Petit Corona, which I unfortunately don’t know the age of as it was purchased in a sampler and no information came with it. The wrapper is a dull medium brown that doesn’t have much by way of oil and one prominent vein running the length. Squeezing the cigar I find it rock hard, which makes me a bit worried about the draw; however after punching the cap I find it has decent resistance with taste of a somewhat musty tobacco coming through.

It’s nice out on the porch, right at 62F with 70% humidity. Tinker, our lazy cat, is already nice and comfy on his chair, which the wife put a towel on due to his shedding. Ah the life. I grab my Oscar Colibri and put fire to the RG’s foot, the smoke coming from the newly formed embers wafts up to my nose smelling really good. After several good puffs I take a long draw and get a mild spice on the back of the throat with the smoke itself a mild to not quite medium strength. Flavors are quite rich with taste of fresh baked bread and a light woodiness, the finish lasting on the palate.

Further in and the ash forming is a very dark gray. The burn wants to lean slightly, but corrects itself well enough with some purging and blowing softly on the fire. The smoke, still mild to almost medium strength, is flowing well through the almost perfect draw. Flavors continue to be that of baked bread and wood with a hint of leather in the lasting finish.

Halfway and into the final third, the burn gets really crazy down one side so have to do some touching up. Towards the very end, the spice and strength both picked up a notch to right at medium and was really hitting my palate just right, definitely the sweet spot of this cigar. Other than the one time having to touch up the burn, the cigar performed really well and was a perfect pairing with my cup of coffee this morning. This was a very nice smoke for a lazy Sunday morning.

Nice review Greg, wonder if it had some age on it since it had a musty tobacco taste when cold?

Seeing your cat crashed like that made me want to go back to bed, but I gotta work today.

Yet another killer review Greg! Everyone I read makes my mouth water.

Likely a 2000 or 2001. The RGPC's were blown out at ridiculous prices a few years ago.

BTW, great review!

Great review Greg, I love the taste of those small sticks and cant wait to have another one now after reading that review.
