It’s been a busy week with the baby girl’s fifth birthday this past Thursday. We had a small surprise party on her birthday, then a big one yesterday so she could have her friends come over to celebrate. Unfortunately the weather turned bad with rain all day, so ended up with a crowd in the house. Needless to say we all three passed out on the couch last night from sheer exhaustion, but was well worth all the fun.

Still raining this morning, which is really a blessing since it is washing away all the pollen; however it is freaking cold with the temperature right at 40F and a fairly strong breeze making it feel even colder. I decided to be brave this morning and picked out an Opus X Magnum O to smoke with my coffee. The wrapper is a medium to dark, reddish-brown shade with noticeable oil and minimal veins. It has a good weight in the hand, is firm when squeezed, and after punching the large cap I find the draw a bit more open than I like. Taste in the cold draw is that of straightforward tobacco with a hint of sweet, dried raisin and a bite of spice left on the lips.

It took a little time to get the foot lit as the flame on my Colibri was quite small due to it being so cold out, cold natured it is. However, once it was burning good, an abundance of bluish smoke poured from the embers and smelled delicious. I took a few good puffs; let it rest for a bit, then after another couple good puffs I took a long pull from the stout cigar. There was spice on the back of the throat, but not strong at all; however the strength was absolutely full right from the get go. Flavors were fantastic, and I could definitely taste the distinct flavor of the Rosado wrapper with wood and leather prominent in the finish. Delicious!

A third in and the burn leans to one side; however corrects itself after some slow puffing and purging. The ash forming was medium to light gray and holds well until tapped off in the ashtray. Spice was perfect on the back of the throat, not too strong and not too mild with the smoke itself still very full. I would describe it as “sneaky” because it doesn’t seem that strong initially, but I’ve definitely got that woozy feeling going on. Flavors continue to be rich and complex with the finish lasting on the palate.

Halfway in and heading into the final third, this cigar was kicking my arse. The spice and strength both were a good medium, but this thing had an incredibly full body that was powerful. Thoroughly enjoyed it too! :D The flavors coming through were fantastic, rich and complex to my palate with a bit of charred wood in the finish that was not a bad taste at all.

I have to say that the final third of this cigar would put anyone to the test, especially for a morning smoke. It would do well to have a good breakfast before smoking, which I didn’t have. Fortunately I smoke primarily really strong cigars, so faired well with this one. The burn was fairly sharp through to the end and the draw actually turned out to be spot on with a perfect amount of smoke flowing through. Flavors were deliciously rich, full and complex with a finish that lasted long after exhaling slowly through mouth and nose. Excellent cigar, but next time I’ll smoke one after dinner. :whistling:

I have one in the High End Fuente section of the humidor, sounds like it needs to be smoked and replaced! Great review as always Greg, keep it up.
