Humidor input and... HELP!

Okay so... I obtained my first humidor back in the beginning of February and soon after I had to upgrade to a larger size. When I did this I went with a Xikar 50ct Humidifier because since the beginning I've heard that crystal humidifiers are the way to go, and my cousin's husband who has been smoking for quite a while raves about them (specifically Xikar) all the time.

I'm not sure just where my problem is, if its in the Xikar or if its with the humidor itself. I've been unable to keep a solid 70%Rh like I'm told Xikar humidifiers do without fail. My hydrometer reads 11% lower than what the actual Rh% is (I've done the salt test to verify this).

I'm unsure about where the problem resides because my humidor has a glass top (its actually plexi-glass or some sort of plastic... I was unaware of this till I got home and took it out of the box). I would think that the glass/plexi-glass top would cause a problem because it could make the temperature inside the humidor change constantly which may affect the Rh constantly. If this is the case I would rather just return it and get a regular one but if THATS not it... than the only other thing I can think it would be is the humidifier...

Just looking for some input/opinions and any past experiences with the clear top humidors. Hope this entry wasn't too scatter brained and someone can help. Thanks everyone!

Storm Shelter for Cigars

I'm in the process of buying a house right now. In the basement, there is a small shelter-like room that branches off the main room, probably 5'x5'. It is actually dug into the ground, jutting out from the basement wall and under the front yard. Does anyone know if I'd be able to make this my cigar storage room, or would the temperature fluctuate too much? I suspect that the top of the room is only a foot or two below ground...

Boveda/Humidpak

Does anyone have experience with these? Can one use them as your only humidfication source? Or should you used them in conjunction with something? I only ask because I see conflicting statements. I have a 100 count I keep at home, and I have a 10-15 count that I have outgrown (it was my first), although was planning on re-seasoning and keeping at my office desk. They seemed simple to use and wa wondering if they work as claimed (maintaining RH without to much fluctuation). Thanks.

Can't get above 65%

I have a 100 ct glass top humidor. Alright right now I have four different humidifiers in there. Three containers of the Thompson gel. Each is suppose to humidify a 100 count humidor to 70%. I also have the floral foam humidifier that came with the humidor. My bro has one of those oasis electric humidifier things and his is set to 70%. My hydrometer says 60% when in his humidor which tells me it's off by ten. When I put the hydrometer in my humidor it wont go above 55% which tells me it's really 65% in my humidor. Any clue?
