Ordered a box of Casa de Torres Edicion Especial that the members of my German cigar forum were raving about and had a nasty surprise when I opened the box...

Posted Image

Fuzzy? Cigars aren't supposed to be fuzzy.... ???

Posted Image

Oh no! Fugging mold!!

Hmmmm the company just bought a microscope camera for 50,000 euros, lets take the box to work...

Posted Image

HOLY CRAP there is something moving!! MITES!!! :0 ( they are out of focus due to the fact that when something moves under that magnification, it blurs).

Posted Image

What I thought was mold... maybe its just webs, all I know is the box is being picked up tomorrow and I'm getting my money back.

Posted Image

Close up of the band... covered in Mite shit...

Crazy ain't it?

That's the best photomicrograph of mold I've seen yet. Thanks for posting.

So you think its mold too Wilkey? I wasn't sure once I saw the mites. Don't they also leave webs like spiders?

I think you have just ruined it for anyone who smokes cigars :(

Holy crap, we all smoke the occasional stick that has mold on it, we just never had the mold
magnified 1,000 times to see what it is that we are smoking.

Brian, it wasn't the mold that bothered me (well not that much), it was the Mites dancing all along the length of the stick lol

"Your Cigars have Fleas!" is what the microscope tech said to me once it focused in.

Those mites are relatively harmless... they just eat the glue on the cigar bands and kinda hang out.

Harmless? If I lit up a cigar that had mites on it and those "harmless mites" ran to my lips, and onto my face... I would be jumping around like a cockroach on a hotplate, screaming like a little girl, and taking out everything in my path.

Harmless, HA! They can turn a 240lb man into a sheetrock wrecking ball.

On that note I cleaned up the one picture a bit... I think now you can see their legs :p

Those pictures are incredible although they do make me wonder what someone might see on any number of their cigars if they magnified them like that. Were you able to see the mites prior to the pictures being taken? Thanks for posting them Wurm and I hope all works to your benefit with the vendor.

So I guess we'll be seeing those pics on Vitolas.net soon, eh?

Heck no, all I thought was that I had a serious case of mold on my hands and since the vendor started doing the "Its plume!" dance on the phone, I wanted to provide stone cold evidence that it was mold for when they picked them up tomorrow. Both the Tech and I kinda freaked out when things started moving under the lens... :0

Those things are so tiny you can hardly see them if you know where to look... magnified at 65x they look like Ultraman or Godzilla should be showing up to do battle at any moment.

And @ Anthony, if Moki wants to use them I'd be more than honored.

Shawn

Holy crap! Mites...something new to worry about!

THAT is exactly why every cigar shipment that comes into my house goes through the "freezer routine" before they even see my humidor. That goes for ISOM's, OpusX, etc...all the way down to Connie #9's.

I share your fear, I think we all do but I could never bring myself to freeze every premium that comes through the door. Something about that ritual that makes me feel like I am violating the tobacco Gods...

great pictures!

but - now i am concerned! I am afraid to ask you this but - stick another cigar from your humi under that micro and I bet you can find other baddies on a seemingly good looking stick.

cool micro pixs. it is mold for sure (the stalks with puffys on the ends is the evidence i think)

I am SURE i have smoked a few mites in the past now :(
