I've tried the HdM pipe tobacco, it'll definately knock you back a step!

Same here. I use it to add a little something to blends that need it. I tried it straight a time or two and it's a doozy!

It's basically just shredded and pressed cigar leaf. I don't know if the Partagas is any different.

On a few occasions I've stuffed the nub of a Sig I or PLPC in my pipe if I was in denial about it ending soon. It wasn't as good as I'd hoped. :D

The Partagas is very similar in packaging to the HdM version. Cake pressed, shredded leaf. However, it tends to be a bit stronger than the HdM (although the HdM is quite strong). For some reason Partagas is hard to find after "La Feria del Habano" in February. Most like to blend it 50/50 with another leaf. BTW, I have some packages remaining. John

When I was in Varadero in May I noticed some packages of what I thought were pipe tobacco. I remember seeing Partagas...basically looked like a smaller cigar box. Am I correct? I meant to find out but it slipped my mind when I was there.

Partagas and HdM have been off the shelves for 3-4 years now. Every year around La Feria del Habano I hope they will come out with it and this year nothing. My guess is that they are using the material for machine made cigars and this may be a discontinued item. John

I've wondered what tearing up a cigar (say a chiselito) and stuffing it in my pipe would be like. I do love a Chisel(ito), so I can't imagine it being bad.

I have a bit of HdM pipe tobacco...Too much to smoke alone but it perks up a mild blend. It mixes well with mild burley blends like Carter Hall.

I know guys who save the caps they cut off of cigars to smoke in their pipes. I think they use the blade coffee grinder to get the consistency right.
