The GAS Pass 2009

What is the GAS Pass?

Simply put, we're Gentlemen And Scholars. Passing cigars, of course. IBQTEE1, we'll have to file you under scholars. The LAGAS Pass just doesn't sound right.

Anyway, the underlying idea involved with this pass is to say a resounding "thanks"! This community has, and continues to: broaden my cigar horizons, teach me about the brotherhood, and cost me a good deal of money! So, I have PM'ed a list of people that have been helpful or have floored me with generosity and knowledge during my tenure here. I encouraged the brothers to invite others to take part in our journey. This has resulted in a rather lengthy list, as I tried to include every person that was mentioned.

If I have forgotten you, please think of it as a loss of mind, not of heart.


Can I pass gas, too?

I guess that depends on your diet......

But in all seriousness, there might be a couple empty slots. I don't want this pass seeing warm weather, so I want to keep the number of people involved to a reasonable level - 30 is already quite a few and is about double the participants of most passes. If for some reason I decide to add a slot or two, or a slot empties, I will entertain requests. Given the high-end nature of the pass, I am going require several things:

1) That you have at least 6ish months tenure here.
2) You are active and in excellent standing. No asshattery. I am the judge of this.
3) This is not your first pass. I would prefer this is your third+.
4) You have the cigars to make proper puts for your takes.

Rules and Pass Etiquette:

CigarPass General Pass Rules


General Requests:

1) Please check the pass thread as often as you can. This will keep you informed of when you may be up and what's going on in the pass.
2) Please remember - communication is the key to any successful pass. There is no such thing as communicating too much.

Before the pass arrives:

1) Please communicate with the brother before you and confirm that you are/aren't ready.
2) Please have a general idea of what is in the pass and what you want from it.
3) Please notify your signicant other (if applicable) that you have a large box coming, but it's not something you bought. This way, you don't get lambasted when it arrives.


When the pass arrives:

1) Please do an inventory and make sure everything is there, numbered correctly, and undamaged.
2) Please inspect the box and packing materials. Post any concerns.
3) Please see if the beads need any humidifcation and act accordingly.
4) Please do not remove the cigars from their baggies unless they are part of your approved P/T's.
5) Please post your put/takes ASAP. If any pass member feels a swap isn't appropriate, please post it publicly and be polite about it. I encourage member involvement.
6) P & T's must meet the following requirements A) $ for $ B) Rarity for rarity C) NC for NC D) ISOM for ISOM E) No limit on number of trades, within reason.

I am the final judge, but I'll be the first to admit I'm not an authority. I love and encourage input! I am not a walking, talking encyclopedia of ISOM cigars - luckily, they do exist! I have a solid grasp on NC cigars, but I don't have a walk-in bunker of ISOM's I'm sitting on. Those of you that do, chime in!

7) Please factor in cost, rarity, tact, and cigar knowledge to dictate what is or is not a fair trade. Questions? PM a highly tenured member or me (I don't classify myself as highly tenured - hence the or) and we'll see what we can do to assist you.
8) Please, if at all possible, try to avoid putting an exact duplicate cigar that already exists in the pass. Obviously, if it is a highly rare and/or desirable cigar, exceptions can and will be made.
9) Please know the sources of your ISOMs and do not discuss them in the thread. If you have any doubt, it's no secret which brothers are a wealth of CC information.
10) Please use the USB drive. Please update the lists. It will make life easier for everyone! Plus, I worked hard on that thing! (You'll see...)
11) Please notify the next person in line via PM and post in this thread prior to shipping to confirm that they he or she is ready to receive the pass.
12) Please make a good effort to get the pass turned around quickly.
13) Please ship the package via USPS Priority and post the delivery confirmation number in this thread.

        The Contests!        

        ThE JoKER'S WiLd        

In the pass, there will be a deck of cards.
1) Pick a card and sign your CP alias with the Sharpie.
2) Don't post which card you picked.
3) When the deck gets back to me, I will have a random brother "pick a card... any card" until he selects a pass member's card.

That person wins some smokes, a set of poker cards from Kem Playing Cards (undeniably the best cards in the industry), and a very nice card protector! Ya know - when you see the people on TV set a chip or trinket on their cards to keep them "protected"? One of those!

        The Jackpot Smokes        

Before I send out the pass, I will select a couple sticks to be "Jackpot Smokes". No one will know these except me. It's simple:

1) Make a Put/Take for a Jackpot Smoke.
2) Get the nod of approval for the Put/Take.
3) Mail off the package.

I will announce you have hit a Jackpot Smoke and you win some cigars from me! There will be no rhyme or reason to which sticks are Jackpot Smokes. Dollar value, NC or CC, and rarity will not play a role. Think of this as hitting a Daily Double in Jeopardy.

        THE LAST MAN STANDING        

Prior to the pass being mailed, I will assign every pass member a random number. In the pass, there will be a list with 37 numbers on it.

1) Choose one and cross it off.
2) Post which number you crossed off with your puts and takes.
3) I will declare the person that had your number out of the competition.
4) Last man standing wins some smokes from me and some currently undecided stuff from Rod's Cigar Swag!
