The first thing that popped into my head when I saw the Kinky Friedman in one of my “special” drawers was that Monty Python saying “And now for something completely different”. I received this cigar from Charlie (Putz Mulligan) 12/2008, so have had it for a while. The medium to dark brown wrapper is smooth with the exception of a couple prominent veins. There’s foot damage as well as significant cracks in the wrapper from being moved around in the humi too much. It has a good weight in the hand, is firm when squeezed, and after punching the cap, which cracks and splits on one side, I find the draw perfect. Not sure about the taste coming through in the cold draw other than a stale tobacco.

I put fire to the foot and take a number of good puffs that produces a good amount of smoke. With my first draw I find it mild in strength with no spice at all, the body seems almost full leaving an oily coat on the tongue. I’m thinking of a very mild coffee with a bit of ginger bread as far as flavor and exhaling slowly seems a bit bland in the very short finish.

Through the first half the burn is okay; however with the foot damage and cracks in the wrapper, I had to do a good bit of puffing, purging, and correcting to keep it going. Reaching the halfway mark and passing all the cracks, the burn becomes sharp and smoke flows well through the perfect draw. The strength continues to be mild with little to no spice at all and the flavors are just not my cup of tea, the finish very short.

I made it past the halfway mark and decided to put the cigar down as it just wasn’t enjoyable, simply too mild with not a lot of flavor. I’m wondering now if I should’ve smoked this when first received instead of letting it sit a couple years.

We got those down here when they were first released; Kinky held a tasting event at the local B&M. I can tell you that unaged, they tasted a lot like grass clippings and clearly needed a lot more aging time . . . but now it appears that doesn't help, either.

It was an entertaining event, it was---we all LIKE Kinky, he's a great guy and a one of a kind character. But there was an awful lot of hemming and hawing going on, and people finding creative ways to ditch their Kinky cigars and go find something tasty instead.

I swear I remember reading an account on some forum that Kinky even privately said he hates his own cigars

I doubt he's given up his Montecristo No. 2's for them. :sign:

My wife loves the Kinky Lady's. I'm not a fan of the sugar coated smokes, but these get her to join me...so it's a win.
