I have a couple of very nice looking boxes of Padrons and Rocky Patels. The RP is lacquered; the Padron box appears to have inscriptions burned into them. Both lack simple clasps to secure the lid to the box. If you store them in your humidor flat, that works fine. But if you store them on their sides, as I do for space and access reasons, the lids tend to fall ajar. This compromises humidity stability and, worse, cigars occasionally tumble out, which is annoying at best or could damage the cigars at worst.

I'd be happy to pay an extra quarter or half-buck per box for metal fasteners. Some boxes are tongue and groove, which I at first found peculiar but now am beginning to appreciate.

I could use rubber bands to keep them secure but that spoils the esthetic making the boxes look even cheaper than they are.

Sometimes you have to tell the MBAs and the penny-pinching accountants that constantly pressure companies to compromise quality for the extra dime per unit profit to to go back to their cubicle and leave production decisions to those craftsmen who love the product and understand the value of excellence, even in the smallest details. All hand-made cigars should be treated with respect, even the less expensive of your lines. The world started going to hell when corporations start letting the accounting/fiance geeks run things instead of the salesmen who sell the product or the engineers and craftsmen who design and make them.

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest. Just my two cents worth.

No offense intended to the conscientious accountants who read this thread.
