The Official 2013-2014 NHL Thread

Welcome to the Atlantic Division, Red Wings.

Doc

I'm happy the Wings are out of the west.  The pacific division is interesting, now with Edmonton and Vancouver in.  So far the Kings are 1-1-0 with the home opener tomorrow night.

Looking forward to another great Blackhawks season!

The Hawks/Blues game last night was awesome!  That will be a fun one to watch all year as both teams are strong.

Doc, I think the Bruins got stronger with the Eriksson/Iginla additions.  Horton was good but lacked durability.  Would like to see Krug and Hamilton step up and have strong years.

Philly is just a hot mess.

BC, love the new Pacific division!  SJ needs to go big this year... if not, that team won't look the same next year sans Thornton, Boyle and Marleau (UFA's next summer).  Not chopping on him but did you see Quick's gaff the other night vs. the Rangers?

The home squad is not getting off to a good start.  The Wild are 0-1-2 and Backstrom and Coyle are already broken.  Bah!

Hawks game last night was intense.   Who is that young buck on the Blues team?  21 year old. Fast and Big.

Tarasenko.  Great set of hands.  If he can stay out of Hitchcock's doghouse should have a decent sophomore campaign.

Yeah, I saw that.  Well, what can you do?  Isht happens, sometimes.

Kings have won 3 in a row, I think.

Atlantic division is going to be some good hockey!

B's played poor yesterday- needed the wake up call and Detroit was the one to give it to them.

Watched the Ducks and Leafs last night.  I'm not impressed with either of the teams.  Wasn't exciting enough for me to continue to watch the entire game.

You got your wish.  13 sec score 1st quarter.  Wake up!

Man, the Flyers are a mess.

Yeah, it's not pretty.

Did you see any of the Washington/Philly game?  The ref that let Emery pound on Holtby should earn a few game suspension or at minimum a fine.  That was crap!

Agreed, but I have little faith in the league to ever do anything right so I doubt anything will happen with that.  Looks like no suspension for Emery.

Since my NFL team sucks.  I felt I had no choice but to dive into the NHL early this season.

Bought GameCenter for $150, Roku 3 for $90 and it has been HD awesomeness on the big screen.  I am able to watch games live or not.  No idea how Roku does it.  Pretty cool to surf from game to game around the end of the third quarter.  Most games are won by a point, which means 6 vs. 5 with two minutes to go.

I heard an announcer say the shoot-out lost the thrill.  Instead it should be something like 5 minutes of five vs. five, 4 minutes of four vs. four..etc.

What do you guys think of the shoot-outs?   There seem to be one going on a day,  Not very rare.

I've never liked the shoot out. During the Regular season a tie should be a tie.

Doc

Not a fan of the skills competition to sort things out.  Leave that for the ASG.

How about that Martin Jones kid in LA??!!  Tied an all-time NHL mark yesterday of consecutive wins to start an NHL career.

His stats so far:
8-0-0
.966 Sv%
.980 GAA
Has stopped all 12 attempts on him in a shootout.

Just an INSANE amount of goalie talent on the LA team.  Actually, think about the netminding talent on ALL the NHL teams in California....  YIKES!

I know, we're having really good luck with our goalies.  It hasn't always been that way.  Actually, it's rarely been that way.  A really strong team defense helps a lot, of course.  Jones has been super strong but I'm waiting to see how he handles things when the going gets tough.  He's playing like a champ, but that's easy to do when the team is riding a high.

The west is super strong and the Pacific is daunting.  Poor Vancouver.  They don't have Edmonton and Calgary to beat up on anymore.  And the Wings, dare I say, seem to be finally settling back into the middle of the pack.  Of course we've all been saying that for the past 10 years and then they go on a tear and rise near the top.
