Getting over your worst day at work

Yesterday was by far the 2nd worst if not worst day in my career in the 9 years. It was almost comical how much did not work as planned yesterday!  Most event days for me are 18-22 hour days, yesterday was only 12; and yet nothing went right.  The worst part, the biggest issue that almost meant canceling a portion of the event was my bad!  I respect control to a certain point, so that when a mistake is made it is mine, but boy I tell you, yesterdays Fup was mine and I had no support to repair it.  With out going into detail, I will give you some highlights of just the small things that went wrong :) ; 10% chance of rain that day, so decided to leave my doors on my jeep off, pouring rain for first 2 hours of day; had lunch scheduled to be delivered for client, restaurant forgot to mention they don't open till 4pm that day?; and this is just the kicker...I mean this just capped my night off perfectly....so the night was finally over and earlier in the day I picked up some of cigarellos from my B&M to enjoy on what was going to be an "easy" day, well at the end of the night I finally got a chance to break away and grab one no matter what was left to be done, well there was no lighter to be found.  BUT I know there was one in my jeep, so I walked to the secured parking area (fenced in, all doors back out locked excepted by key card or key) got to my jeep, grabbed my lighter, lit it up, and then realized that even though I only was just coming to get a lighter I didn't bring my keys to get back in the building....So I was stuck...BUT wait, I have this one key on me and it works on this one door to the building, so I decided to throw my smoke just under the gate outside as I'd get through the other door, walk through the building, and get back outside to my smoke on the other side of the security fence.  Well guess F-ing what, my key didn't work!!  And I already threw my smoke under the fence!  WTF!  And of course the rest of the smokes were with my keys in the other building!!  That was just enough for me!  I sat down on the ground and called someone/anyone that was willing to come back and let me out :)

All is fine, everything worked out, I was calm while dealing with all the consistent F-ups that came up, but it was just not a fun day mentally.

So today I sit, not wanting to talk to a single human, enjoying some beer and soon a cigar while watching the World Cup final while the Brats are booking slowly.

Just curious what you guys might do to recoop from a just 100% bad day?  And not just the normal rough day at work, I mean almost job changing bad day save your as* kind of day.

I usually hibernate for a while. No people, the only acceptable company is canine. 6 hours of that, and life is usually better. Feel better, brother. Sounds like you're already putting it into proper perspective.

Ben, that's why I smoke cigars brother and drink - LOL. That's a usual day running a small company with employees.

I usually dig up some good beer and watch a stupid show that requires little to know brain power.

Yup, thats about what I did!

Thanks for the words all!  The disgruntled part of all of this, as is with alot of things here, it is easy to learn from things/mistakes and I do!  But most of those I deal with in those situations dont...same sh*t different day.

I'm not sure what was worse, your day or watching the world cup.

Sit and meditate. It definitely can be quite de-stressing. Laughing is also very good for the soul. When we learn to laugh at these annoyances, I suspect we become much more resilient.

Great advice!

I learned this awhile back and still to this day still laugh more than get angry as you would go insane in life if you can't laugh at lifes curve balls.
