Gorgeous brown, somewhat oily wrapper. Quite heavy in the hand with a solid feel. Slight sponginess when squeezed with no tight spots to be found. After punching the head, pre-draw was cool vegetable with a bit of old earth. Once toasted, fire was put to the foot and volumes of smoke developed. A quick burst of spicy pepper from the first draw with a sweetness sneaking up behind. Once the fire settled in, lots of honey and fruit with floral tones. Woodiness...cedar. Earth lingering after the exhale. Complexity builds further in with a rich taste of buttery bread developing. Floral notes continue and bread is baking fresh on the taste buds. Chewy chocolate and hints of something vanilla. Totally amazing. Deep deep dark red fruit. A medium towards full bodied smoke from the start. Towards the end, the smoke strengthens but not overwhelming or bitter. Loads of dark toasty bread with….what could be marmalade taste.

Fantastic cigar.

(Been playing around with a different photo editor, so excuse the funky pics)

Now that sounds like something special. Good pics!
Thanks for sharing.
Yep, I'd have to agree, you're a lucky man!

Smoked one from '03 last Thanksgiving, thanks to a fine BOTL ;)

I think your review hit the nail on the head. This is a classy smoke all around...

Very nice review, as always, Greg!

I will have to dig one of these up and try one... :whistling:

Regards,

Indeed, you are very lucky...how many people get to smoke an 01 Sir Winston

Nice review and pics.

I have an 01 Sir Winnie that was gifted to me... :D

Looking for a reason to torch it.

Thanks for the review, Greg.

Another great one Greg. I'm glad I'm not the only one here who "married up". ;)

LOL Clint, by reading and getting to know the guys on here, it seems we all must have "married up"!!! :) hehe, and great review Greg. Anytime you want to send me a few of em I will be waiting ;) LOL

Don

Edit: Cause I cannot make 4 letters work right.

Greg,

Nice review. I happen to like the 01's better than the 03's Both are great smokes but the 01 are smoother and more flavorful, IMHO.

Great review!

I'm smoking from a problematic (tight draws, plugs) box of 2001 Sir Winnies. The ones that draw are sublime. One of the great cigars from the island.

Nice review and photos Greg - what new software are you tinkering with?

Very nice review Brother! (As usual. )

Now I am REALLY looking forward to mine getting here!

Thanks!

Great review Greg, as always.... love the pics! Had one of these from '03 and very much lookin' forward to torchin' an '01. As much as I can determine, the Sir Winnie's and the Esplendidos are pretty much the two top tier smokes from the island in this vitola. 1 down.......

You guys are seriously making me reconsider my decision to no longer chase Habanos. My will is strong, but much more of this and I'm going to break.

Great review, Greg.

Very nice review Brother! (As usual. )

Now I am REALLY looking forward to mine getting here!

Thanks!

Well they did arrive and a friend and I each smoked one night before last and we both agreed ... they are amazing smokes! My only regret is that I didn't buy more.

Thanks again Greg!
