I was pulling out a fiver of Johnny-O! Corona Grande Pigtail Shag foot to send off and well, couldn’t help but pull one out for myself while I was at it. The wrapper is a very dark chocolate color, oily, and a strong barnyard smell emanating from the cigar. My wife comes in and goes, “Whew! What is that awful smell?” What does she know? I head out back, punch the pigtail cap, and find a perfect draw with a taste of earth and a hint of dark cocoa.

I torch the shag foot and smoke begins to roll. Puffing on the cigar while the shag foot is burning is quite interesting. There’s a very different flavor in just the plain tobacco without the wrapper, light in body and a sweet dried raisin flavor. It didn’t take long for the shag foot to burn away and get to the meat of the cigar, and when it did the smoke changed dramatically to a medium full body with a good, but quite strong, black pepper spice. Flavors of earth and wood come through with hints of cocoa and nuts underneath.

The burn was sharp the whole way through with a medium to dark gray ash mottled with black throughout. It held strong, however I ashed it about every half-inch or so. This was a powerful cigar with the smoke close to be full bodied, a nice black pepper spice on the back of the throat. Flavors remained consistent to the very end. I will say that there wasn’t much in the finish though, almost as if something were missing there. I have a feeling these cigars will need a long rest soon. Hope you like them Don!

Unbelievable - I had the exact same smoke today (thanks to a great gift by fivebyfifty when we met a few weekends ago). I, too, was intrigued by all that tobacco hanging off the end - never seen or smoked one that started like that. After the entertainment portion died down - the cigar took on its robust, rich taste and aroma. Awesome!

Its funny this is also one of the cigars my girl also says has a funky smell, but mm mm mm they taste good. On a side note whenever I purge or toast she says it smells bad.

Edit: Even though they look similar, the cigar that John and I had were the Casadore shag foot

never even seen a shagfoot stoge. any other marcas which make 'em?

Thanks for the review on this delicious Johnny-O!(!)
