What a week. Month end closing is always fun! Got off work a little early today, so grabbed Jeff’s blind stick no. 7 and headed to the back porch. This is a nice looking double-robusto sized cigar with a Colorado shade wrapper that is smooth and oily with no prominent veins to be seen. There’s a slight give when squeezed and the weight is good in the hand. I punch the cap and find a perfect draw with a rich cocoa flavor coming through in the cold draw.

After torching the foot and a good burn going, I take a few puffs and then a slow, long draw. Wow! Lots of black pepper spice hits the back of the throat from the medium to full bodied smoke. I get flavors of cocoa, earth, wood, and worn leather as well as a rich nuttiness. The finish is somewhat clean and semi-lasting on the palate. The spice is quite strong through the first inch, burning the nostrils while exhaling through the nose; however settles down slightly once past the one inch mark.

The burn is sharp with a medium to light gray ash forming that holds strong until knocked off about every inch. Smoke flows freely through the perfect draw and flavors of cocoa, earth, and worn leather continue with a taste of earth in the undertone. The finish is still rather clean and not all too lasting, but decent nonetheless.

A third in and the ash became loose and fell on its own, luckily in the ashtray. This is one very powerful cigar leaning towards a full body with a good amount of black pepper spice still coming through. The flavor continues to be good with cocoa and leather with earthy undertones. The ash is quite flaky now with pieces coming loose and falling easily. I find a very good draw with lots of smoke coming from the sharp burn.

Towards the end, the cigar did get a little acrid with a strong, charred wood taste at times, however there was a good, straightforward tobacco taste coming through as well in the full bodied smoke. Strong black pepper spice continued to hit the back of the throat.

This was a good cigar with a full bodied smoke and lots of spice. There were good flavors of cocoa, wood, and worn leather with a nice earthiness. The burn was sharp with the ash a bit flaky.

Good review... spot on I think. I've enjoyed the ones I've had and would consider picking up some more.

I've heard some mixed opinions with the MF's so I have been unsure what to expect (I was recently gifted one by an excellent BOTL) but your in depth review has given me an idea of what may be in store. I'll have to light it up soon to see if I can taste the variances you were able to.

Awesome review and pictures, as always.

I bought a box of these back in October on a whim after thoroughly digging a 5er of lanceros I had purchased. The first couple robustos out of the box didn't really blow me away. I found the flavor profile to be a little too grassy/herby for my tastes, especially in comparison with the lanceros.

I just had my third out of the box the other night and noticed a significant improvement. I was impressed and am glad I have more to enjoy in the coming months. I think something about these smokes make them temperamental to their storing conditions perhaps. Maybe the robustos more than the other sizes.

Good review, Greg.

We(IronMike5, Lkyman & I) smoked My Family cigars today at our weekly gathering. We tried three sizes, lancero, robusto, and the belicoso. Our experiences were similar to yours in that each cigar was very full of black pepper and did turn acrid in the last third. None of us got the leather or cocoa, although they did seem a bit earthy after the first inch. We all noticed a sweetness, which was close to a vanilla bean or caramel, but none of us could put an accurate description to it.

The current issue of CA rates this cigar as a 93:

"Very well constructed, with an oily wrapper and triple-seam cap" True

"The cigar is immediately rich and meaty, with leather, coffee bean and a balancing sweetness" Definately meaty, the sweetness was not balanced against the spice.

Coinciding with the 93 rating is a full page add on page 42 by the Garcia Family presenting Tabacalera Garcia.

All three of us agreed that we would smoke this cigar if it was gifted to us, however, none of us would purchase these again.

Nice review. I have yet to smoke a Pepin I didn't enjoy so I definitely need to give the My Father a go.

Nice review. Was that cigar aged?

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't this line first released in '08? It would be a bit difficult to smoke an aged stick from a line that's no more then 6 months old.
