Cohiba507 posted this thread several days ago regarding some fake Cohiba Robustos he received, and he was kind enough to send me one to review. I’m actually going to put fire to it as well, curious to see how it smokes.
The Fake has several differences that I can tell as compared to the real Cohiba Robusto. Please post if there are more.
White squares are smaller
Last row of white squares are cut off
“Habana , Cuba” isn’t bold
Comma is in the wrong place
Gold letters aren’t embossed
Length is off (longer)
Ring gauge is off (smaller)
Wrapper shade darker (more pale)
Now, on to smoking! I punch the cap, which is actually triple cap and looks "neater" than the real Coro, and the tobacco underneath looks loose (it's very spongy when squeezed). The draw is extremely loose and has quite a nasty cardboard taste. I’m not too sure about actually putting fire to this thing. :whistling: But, fire it up I did.
With the foot burning evenly I take a couple of puffs to get the smoke flowing good and then a draw. Powerful black pepper spice comes through in the medium to full bodied smoke and has a bland taste, much like that pre-lit smell of cardboard. Awful. The ash forming is light gray, loose, flaky, and falls easily when tapped on the ashtray. I get a slight stale vanilla taste in the finish. If I had to guess, I’d say this was not Cuban tobacco.
I keep going for a little ways more and tons of smoke is produced from this thing. Just powerful spice and bland taste. I take a few more puffs and decide to let this thing die so I can dissect and see what’s inside.
The tobacco inside this cigar was needless to say, less than par. The leaf looking to be of very poor quality, it was full of stems, holes, small pieces, with pieces crumbled up tobacco falling out.
To think someone would roll this crap, put a fake Cohiba band on it, and then sell it for the real thing is just about the lowest thing imaginable. Sorry you got the shaft on these Cohiba507!
