I received this ERDM in the MAWPIF some time back from none other than my buddy John (Jfields). I had no idea this would be my smoke for this morning, however I had to dig deep to put up some particular smokes and spied this baby. Oh yeah, that’s the one I want! :D This thing was rolled the year before I graduated High School. Holy cow, this thing is old!

The wrapper is a medium to golden brown that is coarse with a patchwork of prominent veins throughout, and I can still see some noticeable oils glistening. This cigar has been very well taken care of. It has a small amount of give when pressed between the fingers, a very nice weight in the hand, and after carefully punching the cap I find the draw to have a slight over resistance. I was actually concerned that the cigar would possibly be plugged, however more than enough air was flowing through with a musty, very matured tobacco taste in the cold draw.

I put fire to the small foot and with a good burn going, took a couple puffs and then a very slow, long draw. I never know what to expect when smoking such an aged cigar, however when this medium bodied smoke hit my palate, it was absolutely incredible. The first thing was a perfect spice that was both spicy and smooth at the same time, difficult to describe. Undeniably incredible flavor comes next with tastes of a rich, rich dark caramel, toasted nut, and delicious woodiness. I could taste a hint of mustiness, but barely noticeable.

The burn is impeccable with a medium gray ash forming that holds strong until knocked off about every half inch. Although the draw was a slight bit on the tight side, taking a slow, long draw produces more than enough medium bodied smoke to thoroughly enjoy the rich, complex flavors coming through.

A little over the halfway mark, the cigar goes out on me a couple of times, and I have to re-light. The draw seems to want to tighten up more, however rolling the tip around a bit loosens it up very well and smoke begins to flow freely. Flavors are incredibly rich and complex with a perfect spice still coming through. An incredible finish is left lingering on the palate long after exhaling, absolutely fantastic.

This was by far the best ERDM I’ve ever smoked, an absolutely incredible smoke with a sharp burn, rich and complex flavors, and a lasting finish that would not quit. I am thrilled to have been able to sample such a fine cigar and can’t thank John enough for gifting it to me. Thank you sir!

I was wondering if you'd ever smoke that thing, or just sit there staring at it every time you opened the humi.

Nice review as always Greg!!

Another great review!! I've got a few ERDM Lonsdales from 1998 I've been savings and I haven't smoked them since I got them. I think I might have to fire one of them up and give it a try, you definitely had my mouth watering.
