Got my belly full of some good ‘ol Southern chicken bog and biscuits, so am now settling down with a nice Partagas Serie D No. 4 from ’07. I really love a good Partagas that’s smoking good, and these have yet to disappoint. This is a nice looking stick with a golden brown wrapper that is quite oily and a couple of prominent veins running the length. It feels a little light in the hand, however the bunching in the foot looks good and is quite firm when squeezed. I punch the triple cap with the largest ring on my knife and find the draw with not quite as much resistance as I like, however from experience I’m sure it’s going to be just fine.

After torching the foot, I take a few puffs, a good draw, and get a really nice white pepper spice wit flavors of vanilla and citrus zest, typical of a Partagas. There’s a bit of toasted nuts and woodiness mingling in as well, with the tip leaving a salty sweetness on the lips. Excellent!

The burn is sharp with a mottled gray ash forming that holds strong and the draw perfect for the good medium bodied smoke coming through. Vanilla bean and citrus continue to be the dominant flavor with a nice sweetness in the smoke. The further in I go, the spice seems to subside leaving nothing but rich, delicious tobacco with an excellent finish on the palate, long and lasting.

The night is now creeping in and lightning bugs are doing their dance trying to find a mate. I catch one and show it to my little girl who says, “It’s a firefly Daddy!” Ah she’s so sweet. As I wind down to the end of the Partagas, there’s just no denying that this is one of my favorite marcas in Cuban cigars, hitting my palate just right almost every time. A simply fantastic cigar! Now I’m headin’ in to finish watching Terminator Salvation! :D

Nice review. This was never one of my favorite cigars but give these some age and they really shine. I've picked up a few of these here and there and just kept them in the humidor for bombing but now that they've had a chance to mature I've looking forward to smoking them.

Thanks again for the review!

Greg,

Thanks for the review. I have to say that these are one of my top fivw smokes. I recently smoked one from 1994 and all can say is add another smoke to the list of mid 1990 island vitola to the list of phenominal smokes. Again thanks for reminding me that these are great smokes.

PS - why is this cigar always more oily than any other in my humi?

Greg,

Being a PSD4 Whore, i am very happy that you have finally reviewed one of these. Great review, and great pics.

I think your review just made me decide to reach into the humi for and 07 myself.

Thanks
John
