This cigar has excellent construction with the maduro and Corojo wrappers intertwined perfectly together. I don’t see much oil in either, both looking quite coarse, almost like very fine sandpaper, and one prominent vein running the length. There’s a good weight in the hand with the cigar feeling very firm throughout, especially right above the band where I find a very hard spot. With the cap punched, I find the draw to have too much resistance to get a good draw through. Hopefully, the tobacco will loosen once the cigar is lit and warmed up some.

I put fire to the foot and again find it difficult to get a good draw of smoke, however I am able to get some through that provides good, straightforward tobacco flavor. I find the body quite mild, but I believe this is mostly due to the over resistant draw.

About an inch in, a medium gray ash has formed that is holding quite strong with the burn sharp. I ash the cigar and use my Palio to clip just a tad bit off the head hoping it may help somewhat with the draw issue, and it does. I’m able to get a decent amount of medium to full bodied smoke through with a nice spice on the back of the throat. Flavors continue to be that of good, straightforward tobacco with a hint of sweetness in the somewhat short finish.

Heading into the final third, the cigar really starts to perform with sharp burn and medium gray ash that falls on its own. Flavors are moving from a straightforward tobacco to a very earthy, dark wood richness that has a fantastic finish. I really liked this cigar, not just from the excellent barber pole construction, but from the sharp burn, good tobacco flavors, and towards the end, excellent finish.

Wow, what an amazing presentation with the coffin and barber pole wrapper. You have to wonder how this cigar would have smoked without the initial tight draw. Thanks for the review!

Wow that sure it a beauty. Thanks for the review. Can't wait to see a review on the 2009 ;).

Wow, with two years age on it, even. Nice!

I remember being able to taste actual shifts in the flavor from one wrapper to the next, when they were fresh. Not as butt-kicking as the '06, and I do actually like the '09 much better, but . . . two years age! What a patient guy you are!

Great review, like always.
