It’s a very relaxing afternoon sitting out on the swing underneath the good ‘ol walnut tree, Mandy flopped out on the ground next to me. I figured I’d go ahead and try the Camacho Liberty 2009 since I smoked a 2007 just a couple days ago. After removing the cigar from the coffin and white tissue paper, I find it has excellent construction with a dark brown wrapper, minimal veins, and only slight oils showing. The cigar is very firm when squeezed and feels a little too light in the hand, and with the cap punched I get a loose draw with strong taste of cedar. I smelled the coffin and it had a very strong cedar smell to it, not like Spanish cedar, but more like a regular American cedar. Really strange.

I had the cigar lit in no time with plumes of smoke coming from the new formed embers. My first draw was a very good spice on the back of the throat, that of white pepper, and flavors rich right from the go with the cedar taste coming through in the medium smoke (surprise there J). I also got tastes of sweet cocoa and worn leather.

The burn wanted to lean to one side, but only slightly, with a light gray ash forming that held strong until tapped off at about an inch in. Although the draw was quite loose, it worked rather well allowing an ample amount of medium bodied smoke to flow through. Flavors continue to be rich with a distinct cedar wood taste that is actually very good, along with the sweet cocoa and worn leather. The finish is delicious on the palate upon initial exhale, however is quite short.

Heading into the final third, the strength picks up slightly and the cigar gets a bit hot due to the looseness in the draw. Taking it slowly, flavors continue to be very rich with cedar wood being the predominant taste. The finish continues to be delicious, however not very lasting at all on the palate. This was a very good cigar with the short finish really the only problem I could find. Flavors were quite rich and delicious with the burn good throughout. Thoroughly enjoyable smoke!

Nice review!

I've had a couple of these and "sweet cocoa and worn leather" is spot on. Best Liberty in a couple years, I think.

Thanks for the review. I'm going to have to try the 2009. I've had the 2007 and I have a 2008 in my humidor that is on the schedule for this weekend.
