I couldn’t ask for a more beautiful Fall day, the sun actually feels really good on my back as I sit in the swing under the walnut tree. A soft, cool breeze is blowing with a songbird singing in the distance. My pear tree has really produced this year, and the soft breeze is bringing the sweet smell of ripe pear from those that have fallen and started to ferment. I like going over and picking at the wasps and bees as they eat so much they’re unable to take off and fly. :D

I’m putting fire to one of the new Tatuaje Cojonu 2009, which has a really dark, coarse wrapper and a good bit of oiliness with one prominent vein running the length. There’s a slight color variation in the edge of the leaf, which gives it a two tone look as it spirals around. The cigar is very firm in the hand, has a very good weight, and sniffing the decent bunching in the foot, I get a sweet and sour smell of good tobacco. After clipping the somewhat rough tapered head, I find a perfect draw with a taste of straightforward tobacco and spice on the lips.

I had a little trouble lighting the foot as my Zippo Z-Plus is about to give out on me (after almost two years), and the breeze is certainly not helping, however after a little time and patience the foot is lit and smoke begins to flow from the embers. I take a good draw and a huge amount of white, fluffy smoke is produced. I somewhat brace myself for a blast of black pepper spice, however this was definitely not the case. Don’t get me wrong, there is a good medium spice in the smoke, yet it seems to slowly hit the back of the throat, as if it is sinking in. I like it! The aroma of the second hand smoke coming from the foot is incredibly rich, strong, and difficult to describe other than simply wonderful. The smoke itself is a good medium to almost full strength and coming through in a huge abundance with a richness that is simply fantastic. Wow. This is really, really good right from the start. There’s a dark, sweet cocoa for sure along with cinnamon and ginger spice. A bit of worn leather and dark wood as well. There’s something else, something I can’t quite put my taste buds on. What is it…what is it. I don’t believe I’ve tasted whatever it is in a Tat before, but it is incredibly good. I just can’t seem to pinpoint it. The best I can come up with is like a rich fudge taste; dark, moist, and chewy.

The burn is sharp with a medium to light gray ash that is compact, holding strong until tapped at about an inch, and very little coning is shown. Volumes of medium to full strength smoke is coming through in the perfect draw with the body very similar. I am really taking my time with this cigar, savoring every draw, slowly exhaling through the mouth and nose and enjoying the tingling in my nostrils from the spice. Flavors seem complex and wonderfully rich on the palate, the finish fantastic upon immediate exhale, however through the first half only semi-lasting.

I have to say that I enjoyed this cigar so much that I had to put my laptop to the side for a spell. I don’t know about anybody else, but I found this to be one Hell of a smoke. It just hit my palate perfectly in every way; spice, strength, body, flavor, burn, draw. The only thing I can say was that the finish was a bit short through the first half, however that too was spot on towards the last half. I don’t know if Pete reads any of my reviews, but damn you blend one Hell of a cigar. Freakin’ awesome smoke IMO!

Wow, having been blown away by the 06, I was debating picking some of these up. Now I know that I definitely have to. Thanks for a great review.
