It’s an incredibly beautiful, breezy day with temps close to the ninety degree mark in the shade. Definitely warm out, however with the nice breeze it’s rather nice. After lunch, I decided to have a smoke and picked out the Dona Flor Selecao received from Barry (mjolnir01) in a blind PIF a couple months ago. Inspecting the cigar I find the wrapper a medium, dull brown, coarse, noticeable tooth throughout, and not much by way of oiliness. It has a slight give when squeezed with a few soft spots, and what feels like stems just underneath. I punch the cap and find the draw has a perfect resistance with a rather strong, mustiness coming through in the flavor.

After torching the foot and getting a nice even burn going, I take a couple quick puffs and then a long draw. There’s a tiny amount of spice on the back of the tongue and throat, the smoke quite mild to my palate. Slowly exhaling through the mouth and nose, I find the flavor very clean, what I would describe as a “soapy” taste. However, the finish leaves a somewhat rich taste of toasted bread, or maybe nuts, possibly both with a bit of vanilla.

A third in and the burn is fairly sharp with a medium to dark gray ash forming full of tooth. The smoke continues to be mild and very little spice if any at all. The very clean taste is still coming through and although an unusual flavor, still quite good. I am really enjoying the rich finish, albeit short on the palate.

At the halfway mark, the smoke takes a slight turn and seems to pick up to a medium strength, but still more towards the mild end with the spice picking up slightly as well. It started to burn hot towards the end, and I got a small amount of bitterness and charred wood in the draw, yet the smoke finished well enough. This was a good smoke overall with sharp burn, perfect draw, and clean, rich flavors. The only thing for me was it was just a bit too mild for my palate. However again, a good cigar!

Greg, I'm very pleased to see you review this guy! That unusual, hard-to-place flavor is a hallmark of the Dona Flor. I've yet to put my finger on what it is, but I know I like it. Spot on review.

Thanks for the review Greg, the pics made my mouth water! I have 2 left in my stash and I've been meaning to burn one, but 1 is such a lonely number
