I left the office a couple hours early yesterday and since I had some extra time decided to smoke the Mysterio Oscuro. Usually I don’t smoke this size after work, but really want to try the natural and see how it compares. As mentioned in the Oscuro review, the inch of lighter tobacco in the foot had a really rich taste, however once it hit the Oscuro tobacco that rich flavor disappeared and only a somewhat bitter, straightforward tobacco taste was left. I’m hoping this natural will be the opposite.

The wrapper is golden brown, smooth with noticeable oil, and web like veins throughout. It has a decent weight to it, is very firm, and I’m hoping the draw is as good as the Oscuro smoked yesterday. I really like the shape of these cigars and the unique pig tail cap, almost hate to clip it off, however clip it off I do and find the draw has a perfect resistance with a straightforward tobacco taste coming through.

Carefully, I torch the small foot, blowing on the small orange embers forming. I take a few puffs to get the smoke flowing, then a long draw. I immediately get the perfect spice on the tongue and throat with the smoke a good medium in strength. Ah yes, the flavor is starting out much as the Oscuro did, rich and delicious with a very full body.

A third in and the burn is sharp with a layered ash forming that is mixed light and dark colors. The medium strength smoke is flowing well through the perfect draw, feeling rather thick on the palate. Flavors are rich and delicious with a hint of what I would describe as mustiness, but not a bad taste at all. I’m getting strong tastes of rich cocoa and toasted nuts in the finish, which is quite lasting.

On through halfway and into the final third, the strength seemed to pick up to almost full with the peppery spice continuing to hit the back of the tongue just right. Flavors remained rich and delicious with that hint of mustiness, the body smooth and heavy. The burn was sharp throughout the smoke, however right at the final inch or so the cigar became a bit soft and burned a bit hot, so I went ahead and put it down. I can say without any doubt that I enjoyed the natural much more than the Oscuro.

Nice review, Greg! I remember these smokes well. Haven't seen one in quite some time, but someone recently bombed me with one. Great smoke.

Thanks for the great comparison review! Do you know if the oscuro and natural are the same blend?

Thanks!

Brian
