I’m wondering if anyone else out of habit turns their alarm clock on even though they’re off the next day. Mine went off at 6 a.m. this morning, and it took me several minutes in my half asleep mind to remember whether or not I needed to get up and get ready for work. Habits. Weird. I passed back out for another hour, then up and put the coffee on. I could see the sun was out, however we had a good rain last night so knew everything would be soaking wet. After fixing my coffee, I go and grab the Punch Black Prince received in a PIF not long ago (thank you sir).

Heading out the back door, I could immediately tell the humidity level was up there as my glasses fogged up along with my camera lens (not good) and stepped out into the yard where the sun was shining. The dull, light brown wrapper on the cigar had already started wrinkling from the moisture in the air, however the cigar remained extremely firm. There was a slight oiliness still noticeable and small veins running throughout. Carefully, I punched the cap and found the draw slightly over resistant with a fairly strong, musty tobacco taste.

After slowly torching the foot, I blow on the forming embers until there’s an even glow over the circumference, and then take a few quick puffs to get the smoke flowing. My first draw was very mild with little to no spice, however the flavors were absolutely delicious and too complex to describe other than incredibly rich with a finish that was simply amazing.

Through the first third, the burn was sharp with a very compact ash forming that was a medium to dark gray in color. The draw continued to have more resistance than I prefer, however more than enough mild to almost medium strength smoke was flowing through with a smidgen of mild spice. I am thoroughly enjoying the incredible richness in the flavors, which remind me a good bit of the Royal Slection No. 11’s that I’ve smoked a good many of from the same year. If I were smoking this blind, I would also have a hard time distinguishing it from a Partagas as it also has that distinct citrus taste. The finish is one of the most lasting ever to cross my palate.

At the halfway mark, the burn still burns sharp with the ash loose and falls on its own. I’m wishing the draw would open up just a tad bit more as it would be spot on if it did, however even with the resistance it has there’s still good smoke coming through, just enough to satisfy the palate. Flavors are very rich and complex on into the final third. It actually picks up in strength to right at a medium, the spice kicks in a little more as well hitting the tongue and throat perfectly. The ash continues to fall off with the burn sharp to the end.

Amazing cigar!

Thanks for the great review and pics. The Black Prince sounds like a great experience. Too bad it was discontinued.

Coincidentally just had one of these from a shop I found in Hungary. I wish my experience had been as good as yours. Perhaps I kept thinking it would be "maduro-like" since the name and even darker wrapper made me expect a bolder cigar. Still a good CC.
