It is a perfect morning here in the South with the temperature gauge showing right at 66F, a very slight breeze, and deep blue sky. I’m actually enjoying the warmth of the sun for a change. After pouring a fresh cup of coffee, I grab the Los Blancos Nine Lancero recently received from one of our esteemed BOTL, Andy (Cigarman Andy), who I thank very much for such generosity. This is a very nice looking cigar with a dark Habano Oscuro wrapper that has a slight marbling look to it, looks somewhat dry, however has a sheen when held in the sunlight. It is rather coarse, lumpy if you will, and firm when squeezed from head to foot. I punch the cap and find the draw has perfect resistance with a really good tobacco taste, sweet with a hint of cocoa.

I torch the foot, which lights easily with huge plumes of smoke rolling from the embers. Taking a couple puffs and then a long draw, I get a fairly strong pepper spice on the back of the tongue and throat. The smoke itself is right at full strength, the body full as well feeling thick and oily on the palate. Flavors are very rich right from the start with tastes of earth, leather, strong black coffee and a hint of sweet cocoa. There’s an amazingly rich finish left on the palate after slowly exhaling.

There’s a sharp burn through the first third, the ash a medium gray and holding strong until tapped off. I find the spice mellows slightly after a bit, however is definitely still there with the right at full strength/bodied smoke flowing effortlessly through the perfect draw. I’m really enjoying the amount of smoke that is being produced, volumes of fluffy white goodness pours from my mouth and nostrils leaving incredibly rich flavors in the finish. Delicious!

Around the halfway mark, I did get a slight tunneling effect, however this didn’t last long at all. The burn continued to be razor sharp with a medium gray ash and so much rich, full strength smoke flowing through the perfect draw that I’m having to take short sip-like draws. As I slowly exhale through mouth and nose, my nostrils tingle from the spice, the finish lasting on the palate and very rich.

This was indeed a fantastic cigar that was complex and well balanced throughout. The draw was perfect as well as the burn with volumes of rich, thick smoke that pleased the palate perfectly. I’m not sure if I would smoke another with morning coffee as the strength was quite full, maybe more of an after dinner cigar, however still it is one that is definitely right up my alley! Excellent cigar Andy and thanks again for sending!

A cigar I've never heard of Greg! What's the significance of the Nine? They've put enough emphasis on it with the double band and whatnot..

I read in another review that they went through nine blends before they got this one, and it was also their nine year anniversary.

Greg,

Thank you for the fine reviews. And yes, it was the NINEth and final attempt for that blend.

Greg, this is one of my favorite Lancero's. Dave did a great job on this one.
By the way I'm almost hitting a 1000 posts. I think that means I'll have to do something for it. So watch for 1000 guys.
