Supposed to be a hot one today with a heat advisory of 105F, possibly hotter, however it’s not so bad early this morning at 76F. Humidity is crazy high at 83% though, air feels muggy. I went digging in my gifted sticks drawer and picked out a Padron 2000 natural received 6/16/2008 from Mark (Local669), who I haven’t seen in a while. Hope you’re doing well buddy!

After removing the cellophane, I see it has started to turn yellow from sitting a couple years, may be older as I’m not sure how long Mark had it prior to my receiving it. I hold the cigar under the nose and find a strong smell of coffee with what seems like a hint of cinnamon. The wrapper is a chocolate brown with a bit of orange tint to it, looks really rough having a coarse feel to it, and a couple of prominent veins running the length. It’s very firm when squeezed, has a good weight in the hand, and after punching the cap I find the draw perfect with a slightly sweet taste of raisin and cinnamon coming through.

The foot lights easily, and after a couple quick puffs I take a long, slow draw. Perfect mild to almost medium spice hits the back of the tongue and throat, the smoke medium to almost full with the body somewhat light. Flavors are rich with taste of coffee, cocoa, wood, and a hint of cinnamon spice. The finish is smooth on the palate and lasting.

Through the first half, the burn is sharp with a medium to dark gray ash forming that seems a bit loose, but holds until tapped off in the ashtray. Tons of smoke was produced and continued to be a medium to full strength, flowing well through the perfect draw with spice hitting the tongue and throat just right. The flavors transition to more of a straightforward tobacco taste with only hints of the coffee and cocoa coming through, still delicious with the finish semi-lasting on the palate.

The balance of the cigar was consistent with sharp burn, perfect draw, and delicious straightforward tobacco flavor that left a semi-lasting finish on the palate. While I thoroughly enjoyed the natural wrapper on this 2000, I think the maduro gives it a little more richness that suits my palate more. Still, this was a very solid cigar that made for an excellent smoke this morning.

That's a good way to start a day; great review. IMO the -000 series of Padrons are some of the best bang/buck sticks you can get.

Greag, thanks for another great review; one I'd considered writing for some time.

So often, with a cabinet of wonderful cigars, we forget the simple pleasure of the Padron 2000. The whole x000 seies are solid and well constructed, if sometimes not beauty queens. I have my retailer make me up a box of 1/2 maduros and 1/2 regular wrappers; I keep a box in the cabinet all the time. I usually have a 2K at least once a week.....they are great smokes.

Cheers - B.B.S.

You know you've smoked too many 2000, when you look for QC tickets signed by Bravlia.

Doc.

Christ Doc...sad but I know what you're talking about here. I've been hitting my 2000 maddies hard lately. They are over 2 years old and have aged nicely.

They say if you age these long enough they are just as good as the PANs. I've never had a x000 series that old. What do you think?

Perhaps my favorite go to smoke when ever I want something that I know will be consistently good. Man,that sucker had a dark wrapper for a natural!

I know from personal experience that if you age them long enough, there is absolutely some of the PAN flavor profile that comes out.

I also know for sure you can age them forever, but ONLY a PAN is a PAN......

I think my fav. part about the x000 series is that its a true lesson of looks can be deceiving. In general these are some ugly sticks but MAN do they burn, draw, and taste fantastic.
Gotta love those 3 marks up near the cap in those pictures. Looks like the torcedor took a little bite!

Great review as always!

After reading rave reviews of the Padron 2000's on here, I recently ordered some. I am sitting under an umbrella by the pool with a homebrew Belgian Wheat Ale, and a 2000 Natural. All I can say is wow, this is a great smoke to me, well worth the kudos I have seen for it, at a reasonable price, I will be sad when it gets to the nub. I need more, just got to get around getting them into the house and storing them without the wifey figuring it out ;).

Ouch, had to edit this post to say, I had to learn the toothpick trick, to avoid burning my fingers with this one.

Peejers, just find an opportune time and casually say that you are getting a few small cigars to have on occasion. Make sure she's in a good mood =)

That's what I did, worked out great!

but my 30 count humidor is now full, and I have some in an overflow tupperdor. I think I may need an offsite storage facility ;)

Did you say...30 count humidor? Sorry, couldn't help myself. :D

it is limiting I know
