I received this Casa Fuente Corona Gorda in a PIF not long ago, and it has 2007 written on the cello. The wrapper is a medium brown, has noticeable oil, and small veins running throughout. It has a good weight in the hand, is very firm when squeezed, and after punching the cap I find the draw has just a tad bit more resistance than I like, however air is flowing through well enough with a musty raisin taste coming through.

After torching the foot, I take several puffs in intervals and let the fire settle in between each. After a bit of ash has formed, I take my first draw that brings very little spice; the smoke itself is quite mild with the body light on the palate. The flavor is good; however I’m not finding it very rich. Taste of musty raisin is coming through with a light woodiness, and the finish is semi-lasting leaving the tongue a bit dry.

A third in and the burn is sharp with a medium gray ash forming that holds well until tapped off in the ashtray. I’d say the smoke is between mild to medium and still not much spice coming through. The draw, although still a bit on the tight side, is working quite well as long as I take it slow. Flavors are picking up, however only slightly, having a kind of citrus taste with the finish continuing to be semi-lasting.

Halfway and the strength has begun to kick up a notch, close to medium with a touch of spice now on the tongue. The burn continues to be good, leaning to one side ever so slightly with the ash becoming a bit flaky falling on its own in the ashtray. Smoke is flowing well through the draw and exhaling slowly through mouth and nose, I’m finding the flavor now having a richness that is quite delicious with the finish becoming more lasting.

Through the final third, the burn became razor sharp with a compact ash that was light gray in color. The strength picked up even more to a good medium strength with the spice picking up as well, hitting the back of the tongue and throat just right. Flavors are now quite rich with a very woody taste on the palate with notes of citrus and raisin in the lasting finish.

This cigar started out very mild in strength, spice, body, and flavor, however progressively intensified in all respects throughout the smoke. It had excellent burn, and while the draw was on the tight side it still worked well, especially towards the final third; definitely a great smoke with morning coffee.
