I’ve been wanting to try the new El Triunfador line for some time and was finally lucky enough to receive this lancero recently. The construction of this cigar is impeccable with shiny smooth Ecuadorian Habano wrapper that is a medium to dark brown and triple cap on top. Squeezing the cigar from head to foot, the Nicaraguan binder and filler has only a slight give, the stick itself a perfect weight in the hand. After punching the cap with the medium sized ring on my knife, I test the cold draw and find the resistance perfect with a really good tobacco taste.

After lighting the cigar, an abundance of bluish white smoke pours from the freshly lit tobacco with an incredible aroma in the nose. I take a few puffs in intervals letting the cigar rest in between, and once satisfied with an even burn I take my first long draw. There’s a perfect amount of spice that hits the back of the tongue and throat with the smoke a good medium in strength, the body is full, feeling somewhat thick and creamy on the palate. Flavors are very rich right from the start with tastes of vanilla, leather, and sweet cinnamon, the finish lasting.

I’m reaching halfway in and am thoroughly enjoying this cigar. The burn is sharp with a medium to light gray ash forming that did at one point fall off on its own. Spice continues to hit the back of the tongue and throat in a perfect amount, the smoke medium to almost a full strength and the body full as well. Flavors are consistent as previously described, rich and delicious with a long, lasting finish on the palate after exhaling slowly.

The final half smoked as flawlessly as the first half with sharp burn, perfect draw, rich flavors and lasting finish. I will say that the spice and strength did kick up a notch to right at full towards the end. This was one of those cigars that was so enjoyable, it was over before I knew it. If another was in the humi, I would be tempted to light it up as well. Excellent cigar!

Great review Greg! I have one of these in the humi I've been dying to try. I'll light it up today after the Colts game :D

Greg do you like these better than the ORs we bought from Isy? Are they similar at all? I have already smokes and gifted the 10 I had and loved them. I am looking for an easier to find replacement!!

Thanks buddy

I haven't had these yet, but I'm thinking there aren't many cigars that compare with the El Triunfador OR. Pretty amazing cigar IMO..

x2... I've been reluctant to pull the trigger on the new blend because the original seemed like such a hard act to follow. Because Pete's given both of these cigars the same name--even though they're completely different blends--they will always be compared to each other.

Greg, great review as always.

It would be tough to say I like one better than the other as they're both excellent smokes IMO. I think the OR does entice a little more as it is an OR; however as far as spice, flavor, strength, etc. I'd take either.

Nice review! These are my 2nd favorite of the new El Triunfador's. I prefer the No. 1's

Agreed that th OR are great, Just smoked a couple with some friends this past weekend ( Thanks Greg). Have also been reluctant to try the new blend. Just might have to track some down now.

Thanks Greg for the excellent review.
I have one of those in my humi and I didn't know it was a Tatuaje.
Now I really have to try it.

I was also curios if you could tell the earlier "lancero only" releases from the one that is part of the new line just by the band. Is it the same band?

Thanks for reviewing this cigar, Greg. I'd been wondering, too! :)

You know, you and I have similar tastes in smokes. That's why I'm surprised you really liked this cigar. I wasn't a fan. I had a couple that burned like crap and were under filled. I'll have to try one again. Thanks for the review, Greg.

I dunno, this was a gifted stick and had those tiny crystals throughout the wrapper making me think it had a bit of age to it; however how much age could one of these have I wonder. All I can say is it was an amazing smoke with a different taste than the OR, but still...damn good!

Alright, I'm confused. Do these come in Natural and Maduro? I guess I assumed the wrapper was like the ORs, which the Natural nay well be.
