I'm just getting into scotch, understand that cask strength has not been cut.
Say I'm choosing between two bottles from the same brand...one is cask but the other is older, but the're similar in price..any advantage to cask? Also, I do add ice to my scotch.
I wouldn't get stressed about it, your smokes will probably be better in the mid 60's anyhow. I think many people are having trouble keeping humidity up right now (myself included) but it's not enough to worry about.
I think it would take years for the flavours to marry..and I probably wouldn't be be able to discern that "marrying" for sure. Despite this I do keep only Cubans in my main humidor.
I really love that trinidad flavour, as mentioned it is quite unique and all 4 sizes have that similar taste. I've had good draw and burn on the ones I've had..I'm really tempted to order some of the Robusto extra right now. It's definately amongst my top 5 brands.
I'm quite surprised that my cooler is keeping a rock solid 65% while my humi has dropped down to 60% (despite adding distilled water), both using 65% beads.
I'd recommend Juan Lopez 2, Trinidad colonial, and Upmann mag 46 to start with..must try Cohiba siglo vi and Partagas lusitania and Bolivar BF..my fave Trinidad robusto extra and siglo vi.
