I really love the taste of cuban cigars..but the other day, I smoked 4 cigars from reputable cigar shops and 2 where bad (ie tight draw, little flavour, physically hard sticks) the day before I smoked 2, one of which the wrapper completely split and unravelled as I smoked. Right now I'm smoking...
here are some examples for box prices from CI issue feb 05:
Monte 2: $172.50
Cohiba Esplindido: $458.75
PSD4: $151.25
Punch Punch: $151.25
RJ Churchill: $202.50
P Lusitania: $220
I'm smoking an isom right now that has spent the past several years in a locker. The taste is underwhelming thus far, the stick seems a bit firm and lacking any oils on the wrapper, I'm guessing this one has not received ample humidity and has dried out.
Can't blame the retailer...can't afford to pay those prices either, only just to try one but I couldn't smoke those on a regular basis at those prices..wonder how much money the govt loses from Canadians buying cigars out of the country without paying duties? Unless you're rich it's near...
It is quite insane..must be tough for a decent cigar shop to thrive in Canada with such high prices on sticks..compare some prices of opus x or padrons 64 or 26 and we pay nearly quadruple what our neighbours pay. I think it's impossible that our govt would do anyhting to make things better for...
I see lots of talk here re cutters, and I see that Colibri lighters aren't well liked much (I have 2, one good one bad), but other than that not much is said about other lighters. I'm liking the looks and feel of a certain porsche design lighter, but am wondering how these perform over the long...
I have a 150 count DM desktop..I've got about 2.5 boxes in the bottom for long term and on the top tray it's pretty full too. Since the tray on top is quite full, the vent slots are completely covered and am wondering if the sticks underneath get enough humidity down there..if not I can just add...
The monte 2 can be a great cigar, however, it is plagued by inconsistancy as it's made in several factories..the upmann 2 would be my choice, especially if you don't get to see the box you're getting before purchasing.
I've had mine for the better part of this year..I'm quite happy with it, my only complaint is that all those little screws can come loose and need re-tightening. The screw which holds the release button kept falling out pretty much when it was new so I had to use some "lock-tight" product to fix...
I ended up with a Daniel Marshall 150 count desktop. It has performed well, but as you guys warned, it is now pretty much full. I probably will end up buying a cabinet similar to Ironworkers eventually.
I agree that it's hard to beat too, just a little pricey for a frequent smoke. How young would ya smoke the robustos? I got some that are only about a half yr old and they seem too young.
